So our governor just announced that my state goes to lock down, “shelter in place” starting midnight today . Our numbers are climbing quite rapidly so I guess they had to do something. I hope people comply with it.

We are having our beaches and parks closed because tourists are flooding into our sleepy coast from all over and ruining our isolation and social distancing...and no doubt bringing the virus with them AND USING WHATS LEFT OF OUR LIMITED RESOURCES! Why do people think it's vacation time?

Yes I have family in London. They work from home and are considering moving out if the city for few weeks to avoid craziness. It’s too congested to ever be 6 feet from anyone. Hugs

I am anxious to see if this social distancing and isolating at home really does a lot to slow/ stop the spread of the virus. I remain hopeful that it does---in places where it has been utilized, it seems to be the best option.

It's all changing so fast, with new guidelines almost every other day. There has been an awful lot of adjusting everyone's had to do in such a short time.

People are behaving themselves, here. It's gone so quiet!

I just saw a police car driving down my street. Most likely making sure people are following the rules. Fun.

Craziness. Will they be stopping cars? I live in a suburbs by major highway, we don’t walk where I am at all. Only drive. They’d have to stop cars to ask where they are going. It’s not the same as in a city

I don't think they have shut down my state yet. But I am working from home and only going out to get groceries. My city has a curfew at 8 pm.

I didn’t get stopped. There were a few people on the road. KFC wasn’t open. An employee working outside said they weren’t opening for another half an hour because they were updating the menu. Which I assumed meant limiting it and price gouging. I didn’t bother going back.

Most of these shut downs do not mean you cant go outside for a walk or to get exercise. People seem to widely misunderstand that they are still allowed to do so, they just cant congregate.

We've been on "Safer at Home" for a few days but my work is one of the places that is exempted. So I still go to work. But it's sort of on a day to day basis to see whether it is viable for us to stay open or not. A lot depends on our customers and our suppliers.

My question and comment about police stopping every car on the street and asking where they are going wasn’t serious. Rhetorical question , and tongue in cheek and roll my eyes. I live by major interstate. Can you imagine police stopping every car on a freeway “where are you going? Where is your “essential employee” letter?” LOL

One officer from our local police posted on Nextdoor that they get phone calls asking if people will be stopped simply driving somewhere by themselves

At least In Chicago where I am there really were talks about doing that. About stopping cars who seemed like they were just wandering.

I could see stopping groups of people wandering the street. How do the cars “wander”. People just drive one direction. Hope not wandering all over the road

The number of cases in my state skyrocketed by the hundreds in one single day after they instituted drive through testing sites. We're currently in a lockdown, or stay at home policy.

the police car was most likely doing a patrol. it's what police cars & officers do. doubt they are looking specifically for folks violating quarantine orders. likely they are patrolling ...keeping an eye on the neighborhood for crime...or responding to a report of one or a similar complaint.

part of the issue of this virus and the craziness is to keep a clear perspective on the matter. we have not gotten to the point as a nation, where our law enforcement personnel are being sent to hunt down those who are violating orders of social distancing. but that has not stopped the paranoia from setting in.

Yes, let's be clear too. Quarantine, lock down, and shelter in place have different meanings. If you haven't tested positive and been ordered to quarantine then you arent on quarantine. Shelter in place isnt lockdown or martial law. Part of the spreading panic is caused by people misusing these terms and making people think they have to be like Anne Frank, shut in an attic and not allowed to leave. You're allowed to leave your home. You mostly just cant go to work, public places, or congregate. You can go outside. You can go to the grocery store, and you can go to KFC. Price gouging is illegal so if you see it then report it to authorities.

It hasn't been too hard on me...I'm used to being at home alone a lot. But I can it's taking a toll on my husband, who is a tad hyperactive and a workaholic (he has a pretty physical job, and is very active and highly social). I also imagine people with young children are having a a challenging time.

The people I work with who have kids are have a hard time not because they have to work from home but because they are caring for their kids who aren't in school while they are trying to work from home. Sort of makes me glad I don't have kids, but I also live alone and I'm quite extroverted so I'm definitely feeling starved for human interaction. I'm managing though. Video calls and phone calls help, as do chat rooms.

seesaw, re Anne Frank analogy, Emily Dickinson was also a pro at social distancing and self quarantine but you're right, we don't all have to go to that extreme.
