When someone asks for help regarding social services, assistance or suicide issues I ask if the op is comfortable sharing where they are from so I can look up resources.

When I first came to this site I noted that most people here were from the US. I kinda felt like I would be an outsider if I listed Melbourne, Australia but I know better 10 years on. Now I know that many are in the UK or Canada, NZ, Senegal, Argentina and Europe including Australia too.

Up a gum tree west was my way of using humour to blend in.
Thanks for this!

Yes - and Ireland, France, Italy, and Chile, too.

I list Nashville.... I do not live IN Nashville Thank god. But its close enough to the small town I do live in. I have had a few members PM me and want to met over the years. Nope I'll be happy to chat but No I'm not going to met anyone unless I do know them a long time. I brought a PC friend from Florida to live with me.. But we had known each other for over 7 years.

I have some online friends that I've known for 15 years. I've had only one opportunity to meet one of those friends, she and I spent a delightful day together. We've seen each others kids grow up.

Sometimes people post their location but it’s really not their location at all. They do it for fun or for anonymity. So I’d say not everybody, who posts their location, is actually up front and more brave that those who keep it private. I could say I live in Zimbabwe. But do I really?

I've got a similar reason. I live in the EU but many people consider my country "poor post socialist" country. I've had people teasing me about it in the past. That's why I only mentioned it in one or two threads here, but I don't want to make it public in all of my posts.

I listed Titan, Saturn's largest moon, because it would be a nice place to visit. Before that I was found in the clock shop repairing old mechanical clocks.

In reality I live in small city in Ontario, Canada, that is about a 1 hr 15 min drive west of Toronto. Before September 2018 I lived in Canada's capital city for 27 years. - I miss that city. (That is an easy one to look up)
