I miss the excitement of buying a new album and then coming home to listen to it. I also miss Soul Train. Every Saturday morning, I was in the living room alone dancing to soul train. So much fun.

My mother is # 1. Next is feeling free of major responsibilities. Also, I was able to eat as much as I wanted and not gain much weight.

I miss how easy it was to make friends. I wasn't super popular or extroverted or anything, but it seems like kids just sort of gravitate towards each other or something.

I miss having friends that you could just spend the whole day hanging out with.

I miss the feeling that you could do/be anything, if you tried hard enough. The feeling of wide-open potential.

I miss the feeling that time was moving slowly. As an adult, it seems like years just kind of slip out from under you.

I miss school! It's such a geeky think to say, but I enjoyed (for the most part) my classes, being in class, learning new things, and uh... the validation of good grades

I miss not having to worry about the logistics of life - planning meals, shopping, washing dishes, making sure the bills get paid, making decisions about doctors, therapists, hobbies, etc.

- Pets! I don't have pets as an adult (I've always been a bit nervous about being able to take care of them, and have struggled a little with getting my life to a place where it feels sort of almost stable) - but we had a cat and dog growing up, and they were so much fun.

- An ignorance of politics! Politics in general (no details) is just one of the most depressing things ever, on every single level I can think of. Blech.

I don't know. My parents weren't great parents, so I certainly wouldn't want to go back, if I had the choice. I love the freedom I have now, but I really do miss that feeling that "you can do anything, you just have to try!" - whereas now, I feel like so many doors have closed.

I can just quote and ditto your entire post! I relate to so much of that. I miss that friends are always down to hang out, not this scheduling of working friendship into the week (or month). I really miss my friends...I moved away from all of them, but my bff and I of 15 years remain loyal to each other via call and text. And I still have my pen pal and we just recently skyped. But it is very lonely and now I am starting to put myself out there.

I miss coming home from school and there being decent, dedicated kid’s shows to watch until teatime (also Saturday morning/evening TV just seemed so much better compared to now). A lot of shows were only on certain days of the week and if you missed them you’d have to wait for the next episode. Being able to watch whatever, whenever has its benefits but it’s kind of made things boring for me, like there’s less to look forward to. I guess I just miss the delayed gratification/less stuff available on demand aspect of life back then.
Tying into this, I miss each day feeling different. Every day feels the same now!
Going for long bike rides as a teenager. The roads feel too dangerous now for me to want another bike, but I loved that sense of freedom.
Drawing used to be genuinely exciting - I made up lots of wild adventures in comic strip form (all lost now) but as I got older, the more serious I took art, and I barely want to do any now. Didn’t help that I started doing craft fairs and was made to feel everything I did had to be for sale.
Going away on holiday in the summer - always to the same place, I was always horribly car sick on the way too but once there we had a great time.

yes. I forgot that. each day feeling diffrent. good one!

and i hear you about the tv shows

I mean in the night garden for example.. what's that teaching anyone. I suppose it's a cute show, but the concept's not exactly original or fun

I liked things like barney (and had a talking barney toy as well)

and the original sesame street, now though it's just ruined

good eating.

when I was a child I was a good eater- I ate breakfast, I ate dinner, that's all

now with my overeating, I'm constantly on the snacks, and don't enjoy the main meals quite as much as I used to

I miss:

- being happy

- the carefree days passing in a blur of giggles with my little sister

- being untroubled about the future and the past, living in the moment

- feeling secure that the world made sense and was fair

- feeling good about myself and my body

- loving my parents; later developed very mixed feelings about them

- feeling safe

- a rhythm to the days; my mom kept us on a schedule and it felt healthier than the day-long spontaneity i have now, chaotic

- being joyful to wake up in the morning; now it takes me several tries over many hours to get up

this is a nice list

not sure I was ever " happy" as a child. I suppose I wasn't sad, and I was a lot more together than I am now, but I was abused a lot by parents. that made it harder to be happy and made me miss out on a lot

hense why: I'm now more a child than an adult
