I agree. There's no need to apologize, Liz, and yes, what you've shared about may help mistakes from being repeated in the future.

Beth, I like your optimism. While I don't know really anything about about Healthline or what the future will bring, I do share your hopeful perspective.

I'm not sure this is within site guidelines, but want go try and ease people's concern. Long after Doc John was no longer associated with that site there was a huge amount of drama involving a lot of members. It resulted in about half the members, myself included, left the site. It was disturbing and traumatic for me. My thoughts went to that as soon as I read Doc John's announcement about the sale. I'm still uneasy, old demons are lose and messing with my emotions.
HOWEVER, there are major differences from what happened back then. Doc John said he is going to be around for a year. I have faith he will keep us safe. We have an awesome group of admins and mods. They too will keep us safe. And PC is a strong, supportive site. I believe members will not allow what happened at that other place to happen here.

Again, I'm sorry for mentioning it in the first place. I'm really sorry I upset people.

Like I said in my first post, change is frightening. I'm nervous about the change. BUT we will get through this together. We have a kind, caring community here. We will help each other with the transition.

sorry this happened to you.

I have been on sites that have gone that way too

quite a few actually
Thanks for this!

Regardless of whatever happens with the Psych Central Forums, please know that there'll always be online mental health communities available, even if this one isn't here in the future. I don't know what the future holds, but I'll do my best to keep you informed as things happen...

I will be here for at least a year, and even if my relationship with Healthline ends, I may well stick around. The community means as much to me as it does to you and I want to ensure it has a safe and fruitful future!

Best,
DocJohn

Doc John, my initial reaction came from a place of fear. I was remiss in not thanking you for creating and supporting PC. Thank you!

I only found out about this now. Lots of reason to be hopeful, I am sure the community will be around for a long time yet! My thanks to Doc John for the effort and work that has gone into the place since day one.

I am going to nominate Doc John for the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Totally serious. He has earned it. Creating something that allows me, in Oregon, to support someone in Jakarta who is struggling at 3 in the morning? Beyond brilliant. What a gift for us.

My therapist has suddenly left for a long term break. And now I read this forum has been bought by a private corporation 😕 it is sure they'll create more stupid rules that will kill the unique spirit of this place! There are going to be many more people - more trolls, more arguments... It will get as fake as 7 cups which is a joke

I think some of us are a little bit nervous & we're scaring each other? I believe that
Doc John & the other volunteers have been so wonderful! Look at all that we have here! It's beautiful! And why would somebody want to buy it if they didn't like it?

This site means a lot to me as a single person who speaks only to her dog most days, especially since COVID started. I hope that Healthline will continue to maintain the forums.

Quite Disappointed Noone From Healthline Has Messaged Us.

It is just etiquette, if nothing else. My parents would consider this rude.

Hugs!

I'm sorry if I or someone said something to suggest that Healthline would immediately come onto the forums and start this process immediately. That's not going to happen. They purchased the entire Psych Central site, which includes over 40,000 pieces of content, hundreds of blogs, and dozens of different content sections. They are a large company but Psych Central is also a very large, complex site. It will take them a few months to sort out everything and decide exactly how to proceed with the community. As I said in the first post:

Quote:
I don't have a lot of information about the future nor Healthline's specific plans at this time. But I'm sure as we move forward, more information will become available over time.
So I'm setting the expectation here that "over time" means months, not days or weeks. Sorry for the confusion. Until then, everything here will continue to run as normally. I'll let you know if anything changes with that.

Best,
DocJohn
