On VH1Classic this evening. Actually, when I was in college, and this occurred, it kind of scared me! Now, watching the awesome talent there at the time, I'm kind of in awe and amazed at it all. At the same time, I know it was a drug-crazed mud-wallow.
How did other of you contemporaries respond at the time, as well as now, in retrospect? ![]() Patty |

Ohhh I wish I could have gone to Woodstock. Actually I wish I could go back in time and go to it. I'm only 16, but that's where I belong.

I'd loved to have gone to Woodstock....Glastonbury was great twice and we actually had hot weather!!!!!No mud....so I guess I didn't really get the full Glastonbury experience lol....it was awesome though, unfortunately you have to go through so much now to even get a sniff of a ticket, my husand won the las two so we were lucky!!!! REM, DAVID BOWIE, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, ORBITAL, COURTNEY LOVE AND SO MANY OTHERS WERE AWESOME LIVE....and the camping beside the dance tent was an experience lol......

I was 15 then. Already in a drug-craze and wallowing through "life".
At the time I thought it was so exciting and wanted to go so bad. I wanted to see Janis, Joni, Jimi, the Who... I wanted to be part of the culture of the time. It seemed like the world was changing, moving toward a society that valued humanity, peacefulness, kindness, lovingness. It seemed like old values that didn't work any more were being replaced, the meaning of life was being re-evaluated and the future seemed so promising and sunny and hopeful. The drugs seemed harmless and even helpful somehow as a tool to use in re-evaluating and attempting to re-invent society. It was a time of wanting to make things better for people near and far, better for the earth itself. It was an icon of the times. I think this generation was unique in it's outlook, it's unselfishness, it's deep desire to create a world of harmony and peace and love. That sounds cliche now, doesn't it? It says, well there's an old hippie!! lol But it's still a good message, good things to strive for and to teach our children. There is more to life than iPods, Wii's, and TV. .. said the old hippie. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Woodstock .. i was 10yrs old and wanted to go so bad lol .. i was a little flower child - my brother was a teenager and was headed that way before being stopped by my mother .. my dad was in viet nam at the time..
So .. he had his own woodstock i our front yard one day - he is a drummer .. had a band that was well known ...he had the band over and lifted all the windows in the front of the house - attracted every teenager and young person on our block .. was so funny to see the look on my poor moms face when she drove up and saw what was happening lolololol a forever image in my mind! To this day - i love all the music from that era ... wish they were all around today in 2008 .. such great losses from that time .. Janis Joplin - Jimi Hendrix - the great Jim Morrison .. Mama Cass Elliott ... There will never be anything like that again - was so pure and so unexpected for that many folks to show up for the concerts .... but everyone was so free.. Made a big impact on my life! They were the BEST of the BEST!!

You can call it a drug crazed mud wallow if you want but it was close to the best three days of my life. most of the people that talk bad about it wasn't even there and some very important people came from that group of people at woodstock! I was there and proud of it!!!!
