This has nothing to do with Psych Central, but I am at my wit's end. At the moment the food I am looking for is black raspberry jam. I have looked at four chain food stores in my area and none of them carry it. One used to but no more. I asked two to get some and --- no dice. It is an old story with me: when I find something I like, the stores stop carrying it. Any suggestions on how to find black raspberry jam?
When I was in Massachusetts for Christmas the grocery store had it, but that's something that security would not allow on a plane...

Got any health food stores that might carry it? (sugar free maybe...)
How about online shopping? They will ship it to you.

Smuckers says local stores carry it -- but they lie. The trouble with online foods is that the shipping is so expensive. I might try it, though.

There are a lot of Amish in this area and some of them make really yummy jams. I would be happy to send you some if you like. They aren't online, as the Amish don't do technology, but I can call for you and see if they have some and then go out and get it. It'll give me an excuse to go out there! LOL

The one store where I could get the manager's attention long enough said (after my third try) that their management was no longer offering it as an option for individual stores to order it.

What a nice offer! For the moment I ordered some online from one of the links provided by Rhapsody and Chalmette, from the place called The Prepared Pantry; five 8 oz. jars for $29.40 including shipping. It better be good! Who woulda thunk it? Getting black raspberry jam via Psych Central! I will let you guys know how it turns out.

I should have thought of that. Maybe next time, depending on how the ones I ordered taste. Smucker's is good. > where I am 2 major stores are Publix and Albertsons. None of those where I am. I tried Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, and Trader Joe's.

Pachyderm, can you get to any of these (I see you've been to Trader Joe's)? Rodman's is really good; I remember them from my childhood.

One Whole Foods store is not too far away -- but a search for "black raspberry" on their site shows this: St. Dalfour Black Raspberry Preserves. I got those at Giant, and they consist basically of whole raspberries, not smushed like most jams or preserves. That is acceptable, but -- THEY HAVE NO TASTE! Just sweetness but no other taste. Those French black raspberries must be totally inferior!

Do you have a yard? One of us will just have to plant a few canes and grow/can our own? :-) I had the landscapers plant 3 blueberry bushes on my hill but only one plant lived through the summer's drought. I couldn't do much gardening this past summer because of my arm nerve problem; my neighbor actually did the weeding on my hill. She and her girlfriend like to sunbathe so she asked me one day if she could weed because they get bored just sunbathing! Naturally I said yes, knock your socks off!

I have no place that is sunny enough for growing raspberries. I have tried growing both red and black.

I told you guys I would report on the black raspberry jam. I ordered some from Prepared Pantry in the U.S. state of Idaho. They shipped it via DHL. I have read that DHL was considered the premier shipper for goods sent outside the U.S., but if my experience is any indication, that is not true within the U.S. The package apparently arrived in my city Friday, January 25, but the shipper could not find where I live. UPS has never had that problem. I have been in contact with DHL, but I could not get enough information from them to understand the nature of the problem they are having finding me. In any case they have not delivered the package, and I have heard nothing from them for days. Prepared Pantry telephoned me twice in an effort to get the delivery from DHL straightened out, but it has not worked. They said if needed they would send out another shipment via UPS this time.

Polaners all-fruit jam can be found in most grocery stores.
What a bummer about DHL! My offer still stands to ship you some goodies from the Amish. And since my brother works for UPS and says I'm taking food out of his kids' mouths every time I use somebody else, I'll even ship UPS. ![]() |

Yes, I had the same experience with DHL and my Halloween candy; they delivered it to the wrong house. My house number is 3B and they decided it was 38 even though the shipper had put 3B on the package. But DHL wasn't thrilled about having to go back and try to get the package and was unsuccessful and left it at that! It got to be day before Halloween and I explained to the shipper I didn't want a whole lot of candy for myself after Halloween

> My offer still stands to ship you some goodies from the Amish.
Now I am going to be a bit embarrassed (em-bare-assed?). The package from Idaho finally was deposited on my doorstep yesterday afternoon at about 4 PM EST. And with all the confusion, they may have already sent me a replacement shipment via FedEx. Also, the manager of one of the local grocery stores that I had asked to stock Smucker's black raspberry jam called yesterday and said that although he could not stock it on a regular basis, he had obtained a case of it and I could come and get it, or just get some jars of it. So it looks as though I am going to have black raspberries coming out of my ears for a while. Note: I had some today on a peanut butter and jam sandwich; the jam from Idaho, Pioneer Valley Gourmet Seedless Black Raspberry Jam, seems very mild; certainly not any better than Smucker's.
