I bought just one bag but had to turn off the light. I should go see if there's anyone on the street to give the last few pieces to because neither of us need it!

A few great alternatives to handing out candy would be to hand out fruits or non-foods for Halloween. It would be a tad more expensive to do so, but when wrapped in plastic wrap and a ribbon with a cute miniature card on the outside (which could be made at home), it would be a great healthy alternative to all that other sugar.

Both candies and fruits contain sugars, but fruits also contain Vitamin C if citrusy, or potassium when serving bananas, etc. Placing one apple, one orange, and one banana in a bag with a card and ribbon on the outside would be a cute treat during the season of colds, allergies, flus, and coronaviruses.

Alternatively, other gifts could be given out as "treats" instead of any foods, such as crayons (sometimes sold for 10 cents on sale during back-to-school sales a few months ahead of time), coloring books (can be pricey, even when buying in bulk), and stuffed animals with a Halloween theme (can be pricey, even when buying in bulk). I think the Oriental Trading Company (which often caters to teachers) can be a great resource for less expensive items to pass out during Halloween. Like Christmas, planning for Halloween can be done ahead of time, especially when purchasing non-food items in place of candy. Fresh fruits, however, will require special handling immediately before Halloween night.

Adding water bottles would be a plus, so as to wash down and dilute all that sugar. It would also serve as a filler item within each gift bag.

I just thought of this now, as I kept reading about concerns about candy, sugars, childhood obesity, and more. Perhaps next year can be a healthier year for Halloween.

I reside in an apartment complex behind secured doors that require a FOB for entry. No trick-or-treaters or solicitors are allowed in this building. It's also still dangerous, given that our state has crisis standards of care and continued surges in both coronavirus cases and COVID-19 deaths. Indoor crowds for apartment buildings during any Holidays are often frowned upon or prohibited when cases are high. Almost no one wears a mask in my area, and less than half of the people are fully vaccinated in my state.

But still, I like to imagine what it's like having an outdoorsy townhome, duplex, triplex, or house where visitors frequent on Halloween and Christmas. It sounds like fun to decorate and/or give away treats.

I know you probably didn’t mean to be funny and it’s really sad, not funny, but I just can’t help it, I can’t stop laughing. “Any excuse to get drunk and shoot lol” 😂😂🤣 Isn’t it the truth

Eat them and feed them to relatives who pop in for the next year. Actually we didn’t have that many left overs cause I handed or two or three to each kid. Sadly the football team didn’t show up this year for canned goods. They usually collect for the food shelf

My mom told me this morning a group of 3 teenagers took one look at my very big autistic brother who was handing out candy and just left without any candy. Asswipes.

There are a lot of kids here because we live in a gated community outside of the capital. It's popular with families because the air quality is better and it's safer for them to play, ride bikes, etc.

The first year we got quite a few trick-or-treaters. Last year there was nothing due to Covid. This year, we weren't sure. Monday was a holiday so the neighborhood was really quiet over the weekend. I guess many people were out of town. My husband stayed upstairs with the dogs. At first I thought no one was going to come, but suddenly they started to show up. I ran out of candy right when it looked like there were no more kids coming by, so it worked out well. We didn't want to get stuck with a lot of candy in the house either.

We only got some in the really brief window of time of 6:30pm to 8:15pm.

I miss all the trick or treaters.
