The New York Times reported a delay with NASA's Space X Crew-3 Mission Launch that was originally scheduled for early Halloween morning. Due to weather concerns, the launch has now moved to Wednesday, November 3, 2021, depending on your time zone. The event is free and held online.

Additionally, NASA sent out this updated email to those who originally registered for Halloween morning:

NASA and SpaceX now are targeting 1:10 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Nov. 3, for the agency’s Crew-3 launch to the International Space Station due to a large storm system meandering across the Ohio Valley and through northeastern United States this weekend, elevating winds and waves in the Atlantic Ocean along the Crew Dragon flight path for the Oct. 31 launch attempt.

Additionally, there will be a special broadcast from NASA, which will begin at 8:45 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Thank you, Bugtussel! Me too! Well, I'm a science nerd wannabe. I was more into the social sciences, but I'm now fascinated with astronomy and the like. I have a local friend who works for a contractor that works directly with NASA. She gets to work from home. I don't know exactly what she does, but she sounds pretty smart, and so do her children!

Anyway, I hope I don't miss their takeoff! It's been a very long time since I've seen one.

UPDATE:

NASA RESCHEDULED IT AGAIN to Saturday, November 6, due now to some complication with one of the astronauts. Just in case they keep rescheduling this, I'm NOT going to create another post. I'm just hoping that others will be able to find this announcement here, in the comments.

Here's what I received in an email from NASA:

NASA is delaying the upcoming launch of the agency’s SpaceX Crew-3 mission due to a minor medical issue involving one of its crew members. The issue is not a medical emergency and not related to COVID-19. The earliest possible opportunity for launch is 11:36 p.m. EDT Saturday, Nov. 6.

I knew NASA would reschedule yet again:

The earliest possible opportunity for NASA's SpaceX Crew-3 launch is now 9:51 p.m. EST Monday, Nov. 8. Find the launch time around the world here! NASA and SpaceX continue to review launch and return opportunities for the upcoming crew rotation flights to and from the International Space Station as part of the agency's Commercial Crew Program. Mission teams now are considering whether to return the agency's SpaceX Crew-2 mission from the space station ahead of launching the next crew rotation due to the associated weather considerations for both launch and recovery operations.

I'll try asking my friend who works for a company that contracts directly with NASA to see what she says (though she doesn't do astronaut-type work, so she may not know either).

I'm kind of laughing at all the changes though. You would think that, given their mad math skills and prediction analyses for all things outer space, they would be able to predict the weather and firm a date already. LOL.

Here's what my friend said about the NASA takeoff times:

Honestly I think the time is pretty arbitrary for most launches.

The longer distance planetary mission stuffs have very carefully planned windows for dates/times but the shorter things usually don't have that many restrictions.

I'd guess it probably has more to do with local noise ordinances and the visibility for visitors. Missions with lots of people working on it who want to be there for the launch are probably more likely to launch during the day so that those folks can watch the launch together either in person or remotely.

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-3 mission is now targeting launch no earlier than 9:03 p.m. EST Wednesday, Nov. 10. Find the launch time around the world here! And the broadcast time here. To join, visit NASA Live | NASA - on launch day.

The change is due to NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 mission now targeting a return to Earth no earlier than 7:14 a.m. EST Monday, Nov. 8, with a splashdown off the coast of Florida. The Crew Dragon spacecraft, named Endeavour, is scheduled to undock from the International Space Station at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, to begin the journey home. Come to think of it that’s probably just a years old recycled joke that probably started when Star Trek first came out and it probably went something like “how did the Star Trek toilet break?” Willam Shatner.

I've added a new thread so that this thread and a previous thread can be closed by admin here. The date on this thread was changed so many times by NASA that I should have just started a generic NASA thread instead, which I did.
