On a whim I decided to do something drastic...I went BLONDE!

I've only done blonde once in my life but I am so happy with how it turned out.

She two-toned it, leaving the buzzed backside dark. It was a pleasant surprise, she didn't tell me beforehand and I like it.

I hope you guys can see it!

I got new hair!!!!

I didn't get some good reactions with my hair. My mom hates it, my boss isn't thrilled, I had a customer judge me for it. What the hell!? I've been freaking out about it all day, but ultimately I like my hair and that's all that matters. I'm just too sensitive.

Do people actually comment they don’t like your hair. That’s rude. Customer judged you? Hair color isn’t even something to judge. Plus they don’t even know you. Why your boss even talk about your hair? Try to ignore this noise. It’s just ridiculous

My mom won't even acknowledge my hair and when she first saw it it really shocked her and she scowled at me even when my dad's reaction was super excited, she really doesn't like it, which is beyond my level of comprehension because I dye my hair on a regular basis and it has never bothered her, not even when I did crazy colors.

My boss said it doesn't suit my skin tone and that she wasn't thrilled with it.

The customer didn't flat out say my hair was bad, but she commented to me in a disgusted tone "who did your hair?" as if she was saying, "who on earth did your hair?" and when I told her she shook her head disapprovingly.

When people ask rude questions or make rude comments thats when you nicely say "why do you ask?" Or "why does it matter?" To make them uncomfortable on purpose. This one girl at my last job kept asking why I had my hair short. I finally had enough and I said "why are you asking me why my hair is short?" Watching her stutter and get uncomfortable and try to come up with a polite answer was awesome.

You look amazing!

A new style or colour can make such a difference. Unfortunately, there are people (even relatives) who feel they have to comment adversely. Couple of weeks ago, my mother said my hair was flat and didn't look as good as usual.

I'd had my hood on from car to her door so of course it was flat!

My mom has been criticizing my hair all my life.

I think it's weird that your boss and a customer would comment. It's really none of their business. It's none of your mom's either, but I know how moms are.

You are so cute and adorable, LL. I think some of those rude, unhelpful comments come from a place of jealousy on their part. It took me awhile to wrap my head around this concept, as I was raised to never say anything unless it was something kind and genuine. But now, I've lived long enough to know that it's true, and it happens frequently with many women.

Because you had the courage to go and do something different---and because you are a doll---and because you are really so likeable and have such a lovely spirit---unfortunately, some people can see it as an opportunity to deliver some spite. I agree with just about everyone who is saying supportive things, and wondering where these nasties get off: IGNORE the negative responses. I used to get *stuff* like this from my sister and stepmother and one hurtful ex-friend. I never understood where they were coming from, or what I had done to deserve their snotty comments. I thought they cared for me.

But they apparently saw me as some kind of threat, a person to be 'taken down a peg'. That caused me some confusion for a bit, too, until I realized this was becoming their standard pattern of behaviour, and that they had morphed into some REALLY un-kind people over time.

It got easier and easier to ignore them, with practice. It was their problem, not mine!

Thank you, Museum Ghost, your words are so kind and sweet.

My boss walked up to me this morning and "apologized" for her comments. She said that when she first saw me she was shocked, but after working with me for a few days she realized that my hair was beautiful after the shock wore off. She told me I was super pretty and that she liked my hair. Today I worked with the whole crew and two of my coworkers loved my hair (both were guys) and I had two customer comments who said my hair was adorable. One woman is a regular and chatted me up about my hair, and I told her I dye my hair on a regular basis and she said she loves my hair and can't wait to see what I do next.

So after a rough start, I'm feeling the love. I also think it's because since I've dyed my hair, I set my hair with mayo for an hour, and then almost every day I put a small amount of "extra penetrating" moroccan oil in my hair, more if my hair is wet. So I've taken a photo of me the other day and you can tell a drastic difference of the health in my hair, and I think what I've been doing is making my hair blonder.

Here's an updated photo for those who can see it...

I got new hair!!!!

You know, I kind of knew it would be your boss who would approach you with an apology. People can actually have a kind of shocked response to big changes in our appearance, and that means it come across differently from how they meant it to. I imagine the others will eventually come over to your side. It can take a little time.

Self-care, especially for gals, is so absolutely essential to feeling better about everything. Your hair looks really wonderful after your conditioning treatments, too!

When people surprise me with their disappointing attitudes, I try and remind myself it's probably more about them, than it is about me. A bit of time and distance can fix a lot.

Meanwhile, rock on with your lovely new look!
Thanks for this!

I like it, I think it's super CUTE! People can be soooooo WEIRD about hair. The same people who will claim that they believe it's everyone's right to do what they want with their own body can be supremely odd about tattoos and hair. Your SKIN and your HAIR are Y O U R body.
