Stepped out of the house to feed the horses this morning and smelled smoke! momentary panic until I realized it was blowing in from further away. Eskie, you were right. Dealing with a fire leaves some hypervigilance.

This is fire season in Florida. We don't have the huge fires they have out west, but we do get some hairy ones.

I'm glad you are ok @lizardlady.

When I stepped outside today, I could smell smoke. There's a wildfire near Dallas, and the smoke has just reached us here in Houston. Luckily, it passed quickly, and the air quality is back to normal.

Oh my goodness!!! That is so scary!

At least the fires aren't so bad in Florida, but I'd be terrified!

I don't need to give any advice, you're alredy prepared to the best of your ability and you're a quick thinker on your feet.

Hugs!!!

Oh my....that smell of smoke definitely puts on the vigilance. Was in the new barn where we have the pregnant mares last night & temps were nice so barn was all open. I smelled smoke & the first thing I did was try to figure out where it was coming from also. Though I know we are expecting rain this weekend & no wind last night....people were trying to get their burn piles burnt before the rain. Know the farm has their burn pile in a back field where I can see it & my neighbor was talking about doing his burn pile too. I hate not knowing where it is actually coming from though & just the smell of smoke triggers awareness.

Ugh, a few years ago not long after moving here, I was driving home from my neighboring friend's farm. Saw flames going into the sky right by my farm. First thing I thought was "MY HOUSE" until I got closer & saw it was a huge burn pile in the field on the property next to mine. I WILL NEVER get used to burn piles or the smell of smoke

Across the road from me, they regularly pile rubbish up in their yard to burn it - then leave it unattended

so i'm always afraid the flames are going to get across the road, through my yard and get to my house
