We get owls occasionally, it's an incongruous sound in the city, but there he was.

Owls are usually night birds.Once I came across with an owl in my own back yard.I stepped out to do some chores and lo and behold it was there. It was very big and really pretty. I stopped in my tracks and it stared at me with his big eyes. I thought it looked different from a regular owl somehow. From the ones we see in picture books. It was a staring competition with it.It looked like a garden ornament except he was moving his neck once in a while. After a while I thought I should get my camera and went inside .When I went back it's gone.I discussed it with a person who knows a thing or two about owls and gave a good description of how it looked like.He said it was a rare variety that usually is not seen in broad daylight and usually stays in deep woods.I feel blessed that I actually saw one.

I live in the boonies goodies. Owls are not common, but not rare either. On night we had a visit from a Great Horned owl. Its HOOT was so deep it sounded like the bird was about 6 feet tall.

Owls can get big. I was in the woods once and accidentally startled an owl into slamming into a tree branch. I think about that sometimes.

When I was out in the evening feeding my horse, I would hear many owl conversations going on in my woods. Never saw them though. Our night watch guy at the TB horse farm where I worked during foaling season took an amazing video of one that actually let him get close to it. So much nature when living in rural areas

Glad you like hearing me "hoot".

Seriously I love the sound they make and any bird for that matter. Beautiful...

Owls eat lizards. (Tiny ones, LOL)

Oooh, I love the sound of an owl. When I hear one it usually means autumn.

I do too. I also like the way they look.

Off topic, but I like the sound of crickets too. Very relaxing and calming, so musical. They are scary LOOKING ugly insects though! But that sound....no musical instrument can mimic that.

I was driving up to the barn a couple of nights ago just as it was turning dark to take care of my neighbors horses. As I was driving up the steep driveway, an owl took off flying right in front of my truck. Good thing it had a good lift off. Too dark for a photo but a cool experience
