I can turn off the sound but I don't want to do that. On the TV or radio I can mute it the few seconds it goes on.

Nammu I'm perplexed some people can laugh it off, it's alarming to me. It's a TEST and during a real emergency that's when it's time to stop and listen. At that point, life will not go on as usual---the kind of disruptions we could have make my skin crawl. Even extreme weather is something, more common now than before.

It was a test, we knew it was a test, and we knew it was coming. No one really thought more deeply about it than that. Growing up, all of us lived though the Wednesdays alarms. Most people at the senior center lived here growing up. This isn’t a place people move to. Here in my home town every Wednesday the siren went off at noon. It was just a test. It was kind of comforting to know it was working and in place. Back then I lived in the country not town but you could still hear it. It was for tornados or air raids. The few times it went off not on a Wednesday everyone knew it was serious and turned on radios to get the news. I guess we thought of todays test the same way. It was a shared moment.

I feel like people can sometimes take advantage of zoom now.

Also do I want my hoodie on or not. I don't want to get panicky hot 20 minutes after. Maybe the cold won't bother me.

Don't fall asleep, don't fall asleep....

I didn't know it was coming until I read about it on NPR, after it went off. Here we don't have Wednesday alarms. Or alarms any day. Everytime I hear it (rare), I do stop to listen and HOPE it's a test. Supposedly they test every 3 years, which doesn't seem often enough to me.

Sadly there's not that kind of sharing at my senior center or city.

In our area, air sirens are tested first tuesday of every month at 1pm.

Other tests come thru on the tv usually at the crucial dialogue!

We were about 15 of us in the room when alarm went off. Everyone’s phone. Imagine the noise. I forgot about it and it startled me. It’s working so it’s all good. No reason to get upset about it. Everyone laughed at me getting startled, including me. I get startled easily. It’s an inside joke at work.

Found fox scat in the backyard. I knew those holes weren't from the groundhog!

I don't like how early the sun sets now. I miss the longer evenings already and it's only going to get worse over the next couple of months! Not to mention the end of Daylight Savings Time which will mean it gets dark shortly after 5 pm. Ugh! Our State voted to make Daylight Savings Time permanent several years ago but we still change the clocks back every Fall!

That’s because it takes an act of congress to change daylight savings time. My state voted to get rid of the time change too, but congress has not voted despite how popular this is! Stupid congress!

There was this funny story I read today about some Amish guys who got outed for having smart phones when the emergency alert went off.

Church in the front, party in the back.

Yeah, it's also dark in the mornings here. In spite of this nonsense being proven as BAD for our system (physically and mentally), they won't STOP this crap! It's NOT necessary, has no benefits. I prefer Standard Time, as it's the "real" or (nature's) time. But if they picked Daylight Saving Time, I'd be able to handle it as long as there's no more back and forth! That change is just weeks away now.

The earlier sunsets makes me think it's much later, close to bedtime but it's hours away. We don't even spend equal amounts of time on each, not for years now. We stay on DST much longer.

Nammu, you're right. STUPID CONGRESS, on many levels.

Is anyone else thinking that emergency alert test the other day may have been done for a reason? Its like they do the test and then a huge terror attack happens overseas and now they are talking about threats to our own national secuirty...

I don't know Mountain but given the troubling and scary times we live in, I wonder too esp. since now the attack on Israel. It was like 9/11 was to us, they said....

When they test, I wish they'd warn me BEFORE the loud beep to say "This is just a test" so I don't panic. It's only after the test is over, they say "This was only a test." Thank goodness for that.

It’s not 9/11 Israel has been pecking away at Palestinian people and grabbing their land for years. It was just a matter of time. It was completely coincidence that it happened days after our test. Israel has only themselves to blame. But of course they will tell the world poor me. War is terrible. There is as many countries in conflict and billions of people at risk from war. The world now as as much conflict as there was during WWII .

Being like 9/11 wasn't my comment or take on it, it was from either our anchor or a random Israeli in describing what it felt like to them, like how 9/11 came out of the blue for us. So don't kill the messenger.
