I got up at 5 am to watch the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

It was pretty amazing, nobody can do pomp and ceremony like the British.

I'm not a huge fan of the monarchy but I wanted to watch it as a major historical event. And I'm glad I did. The ceremony has so much historical tradition in it and the announcers on the TV channel I watched it on, did a good job of explaining the various symbols involved.

Did anyone else watch it?

I just caught them live on the balcony. Nobody says anything about this, but Camilla being queen i think really shows an advance in women's rights. As does Prince william glowering over little Louie! Mama gets a day off.

I watched about 10 minutes of the choir singing and then I went back to bed for an hour and I got up and watched the
procession and them on the balcony.

But I missed a lot of it.

Yes I did, it qas great seeing this as I watched it with my family. The outfits were amazing. Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte looked great loved their outfits. I just loved the whole experience. I'm a total Royalist so I'm bias lol. Wish I had been there minus the rain that is. Love the parade too!

Totally forgot about it. But then I’m one of those who thought the crown should skip a generation and go to price William.

LOL at myself.

Like Splitimage I was going to watch part of it because of historical significance. Totally forgot to account the time difference and missed the whole thing!

I totally forgot about it. I have a close family in London and we face timed today, they were out for a walk during coronation and didn’t see it either. I don’t think they particularly cared. I also have an old friend in UK. She sent me a picture the other day, King Charles visited research lab she works at and on pictures he was showing genuine interest. She said he was very friendly and inquisitive

I did. It was a little weird in this modern day and age to see this, all the while knowing the UK govt is struggling with taxes and Brexit fallout… it’s not been a great time over there.

Meant to at least have it on while I was choring but got busy and forgot. I agree, the tradition etc is very interesting. I pity the crowd who moan and complain about it all while practically embracing totalitarian ideals. The modern British monarchy ain't near as toxic as some of the stuff I've been seeing worldwide. It's like comparing apples to arsenic.

Watched what I coyld get for free on YT on my phone.....no TV & no paying for streaming apps.....but then I didn't get to see our Ky Derby last night either. Ah well always get to see the highlights posted later. The corination was a major historical event & see it as important from that aspect. (Always interesting to see the surrounding people's (family) reactions observed)

I watched it. It was on in the Saturday evening here. It was amazing to see all the pomp and ceremony. I always wonder if the people up the back can see anything at all. Maybe they have big screen tvs hidden some place?

Loved seeing the robes and tunics and dresses. Such rich colours. Camilla had such a lovely train as she was walking out of the abbey. Once in a life time event. Felt a bit sorry for Haz.

I wonder how many brits will do their volunteering bit on the third day. I am looking forward to watching the Kings concert this afternoon.

I only caught about 30 seconds of it, as I spent most of the morning at the vet, only caught a little bit of it after the vet trip when I was food shopping. Asda had a demo telly up and running, which showed some of the coronation.

Its like this whole thing of the goverment being like "lets give the NHS workers a 5 per cent raise" then, just like last time they said about a raise, they take it off of us again, in taxes and pension and national insurance and whatever else they think up

and whats making so many of us pissed off is the fact that the royal family get everything on a silver platter, the majority of them don't actually do very much

To be honest it's not the Royals fault they were born into their lives if privileges. I understand what your saying willowtiger but Prince William as is The King are just regular people born into luxury. You can't be mad at that.

I begrudge the nursing staff who weren't front line staff during covid and are wanting pay rises when supermarket staff had to deal with queues, the public, arrogance of folks, not getting time with family so they could let older staff who were vulnerable or shielding do so.

So the Coronation has nothing to do with politics for once it was doing duty to country like it's done for thousands of years.its our tradition and one we are likely going to see keep happening again and again and again.

Yes it was lavish, yes we live in some areas in poverty, yes it was expensive but it showed what the UK is all about coming together and celebrate. I personally didn't do anything my city isn't like London for instance. But it was still great seeing people coming together plus it was a piece of history for most of the country.
Thanks for this!

I didnt do anything for the coronation either. Right or wrong, my priority was (and is) older cat Tigger. I know it was a historical event, but my family are not royalists (is that the right word?)

Not many people I know/work with were bothered about it and I’ve noticed younger people less so.

Nobody can help who they are born to, but what people CAN control is what they do with their lives. That's what I'm trying to say.

I think the royals are outdated and should come to an end. I would like for William to end it. I do not like that Charles and Camilla got all that they wanted and never had to suffer. How many people suffered as Royals because they were divorced or the people they loved were divorced. And now the most unworthy get it all because we are all just too tired to stand up and fight? Just glad I am an American.

Royalty are not supposed to marry someone who got divorced.

I agree with you though.
