Let's Meet in the Chatroom!

I have been a member since 2014 and one of the things that has changed over the years are the chatrooms. I notice that sometimes I go in there and the only one that is there is FreudBot, the friendly chatbot that can comment on the weather and other things.

So I was wondering if anyone else ever thought about what would it be like if we had a place to tag people we wanted to chat with [example @CANDC] and tell them when you will be in the chat.

Or what about the idea of having people post the times in EDT (or specify time zone) time that they are planning to be in the chatrooms?

So if people respond this could be a thread to let people know specific people or anyone when you plan to be in chat.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

@unaluna I hear you. When I was growing up they did not even have calculators!

I used a chat room two times, it was emotional support chat. It was the best. It got me through a tough day once. But that was a long time ago. Few years back I tried chat again and there was either no one or a few people with one person tried to take over the conversations. So I’ve not been on there since. It’s a good idea!

Haha in response on being old: one of the reasons I can do any kind of math in my sleep was that we were not allowed calculators. We did use logarithm ruler and I think we had trigonometry ratios chart because it is really hard to do if you have zero tools, but no calculator. You had to be able to do it with paper and pencil.

I think it's a great idea for people who want to chat, who want to make conversation via internet (and obviously zillions of people outside of this site love online chats), but I just want to put it out there that there might be some people who don't want to chat online (perhaps they prefer talking in person, for example) so, if tagged and the person doesn't respond, please don't take it personally! (I have become such a person).

I usually show up around 8pm eastern

I never used the chatrooms at MSF. Just tried them after reading your post CANDC. Dr. Freud was the only one there. I can't figure out how to log out of chat so I may still show as being there.

@CANDC, how much are people using chat now? I like your idea, but wonder if people will do it.

I just looked in but didn't see any other insomniacs in there.

Hi Liz, to log out of chat click the 3 dots upper left corner of the Chat box. Then to exit click on --> arrow bottom of the popup window

The purpose of this thread is to let people know when people are in there. Right now there are two members not counting Freud.

If interested post a time you might be in there and see what happens.

I’m usually there every morning Australian time. Would be great to see more people 😊

Yes there are two people in there at 4:05 PM

That is the purpose of this thread to let people know when you can be in there or will be in there.

I do not know Australia time zones but you are in there at 4PM EDT so that must be Australia morning.

For the moment I spend A LOT of time in the chatrooms during the day (US Central Time) Monday-Thursday. Often Friday too...usually I'm on around 10 or 11am until about 2-3pm. This will change in a few weeks though when I start my new job.

I'm usually in the chat around 4:45-5ish Eastern Time and then later but I guess I don't know that time. I'll have to keep better track.

I go in there late, it's 9pm now EST. And usually everybody is sleeping.

@LadyShadow oh no that is too bad. Maybe someone will see your time you posted and go in the chatroom.

Yup @CANDC - just took a peek and MSF is napping again! Lol.

@10:40PM EDT is when you posted that. Read some of the other times and see if you can find a mutual time that works for both of you.

FreudBot responds to the word "Weather" and "Cityname" like Paris or London or Los Angeles

I tried around 6:30 am EST. No luck...

Yeah during the week people work but on the weekends likely sleep in. 6:30am likely isn’t chat room time

I had a look in the chat room put of interest (just me probably due to time zone). One thing I will say is the default avatars are kind of scary. I felt bad picking one 😅.
