I need to get all the rest of my receipts together and totalled. I go to the tax preparer on Friday. Tomorrow is my day for my four-hour trek (round-trip), and three hours of teaching. Anyone else working on tax stuff today?

Well, I don't normally need to file, but to try and get that rebate, I have to. Still, I won't get the amount everyone else gets, and maybe nothing. Anyone else working on tax stuff today?

You do need to file to receive the government payout. You have to file a 1040 and not a 1040EZ or another form. Most people will receive $800, but have to file to receive it. Those on medicare or SSI can receive $300, but have to file the basic form to get on the list for the check. You can file a request for extended time and still receive it, by filing before October (I think.)

Anyone else working on tax stuff today? Good wishes on those forms EJ!

My husband keeps trying to give me the taxes since I worked in accounting and actually did taxes for awhile in the 1980's but I'm perfectly happy, what with his investments and stuff, to let him and TurboTax fight it out together Anyone else working on tax stuff today? He has to wander up to his office desktop machine though, instead of his laptop on the sun porch but he loves his sun porch so hasn't quite gotten around to it yet.

I had mine done but there were papers I could have used in my tax forms this year and I didn't know that. I couldn't find the receipts for a few things. I bummed out a bit knowing that with those receipts, I could have added a couple of hundred dollars onto my return

File an amended return! It's no big deal. You might even get the person who helped you to redo it. Honest, it's worth it and I'ved done it many times in the past.

I'm going to a tax preparer on Friday, but like to get all of my stuff organized upfront.

Well I added up all my medical expenses, and was short $1,250 to deduct. Anyone else working on tax stuff today?

I didn't mind paying taxes when I used to make lots of money. Oh well. Anyone else working on tax stuff today?

I guess we all have to chip in.

I am a tax accountant. There is a massive mountain of work on my desk today. If I have to add up one more old-lady's list of every five thousand $4.00 Wal-mart prescriptions she had, only to tell her that it's not enough to itemize....I am going to SCREAM!!!!

Why on earth did I get into this profession? WHY????

Oh, that's right. Duh. Have to pay my dues for a few years, just so I can get a "real" job.....grr....

Razzleberry,

God bless you!!

I only did it once for my husband and me.

I never thought I was going to be old, and here I am 60! If I don't look in the mirror, I find it really hard to believe!

Haven't done my personal income taxes yet, but I started my new job today and as it's the end of the first quarter, I kept getting handed all kinds of tax things that need to be filed - payroll, GST, WSIB, and I've never handled gov't remittances before. Looks like I'm going to be learning a lot about corporate tax in the next couple of weeks.

On the personal front it's going to be scary since I have 3 years worth of filings to do. Nothing like getting behind.

Maybe this weekend or next.

I did my fiance's a month ago... and waited for mine to be done... I had previously lived with my parents. My dad has his own business so personal and buisness taxes are done together. Previously, my parents claimed me this was the first year they didn't so my dad still had all my stuff mixed in with thiers and decided to have mine done as a gift. I now have all the papers for next year and will do my own again. I only had a small hiccup on one of the state returns (since we moved to AZ) It was so strange because we left MN on July 1st so we had "split residency". Anyhow those tax programs are REALLY nice!

You can always get an extension - all you have to do is file a form, and they give you until October to file.

Only catch? You still have to PAY by April 15th...or they charge you interest and penalties...

But if you're getting a refund it doesn't matter when you file, really.

I am glad this post came up. I hate tax time as much as anyone. The United States has one of the most onerous and idiotic tax systems on Earth. The cost of compliance is one of the main reasons many of our corporations have fled our lands for other countries. It causes stress( as evidenced in these posts) and slows down our economic growth. There is a much better way!

What if April 15th became another day on the calander and nothing more. What if you never had to search for reciepts, fill out endless forms or spend money to have someone else do them for you. What if you took home everything you were paid no FICA, no withholding? That sound good?

Its called the Fair Tax and its time we got with it as a society. If you want to learn more PM me and I will be glad to give you the link to the website

Its time to end this social engineering nightmare we call a tax code
