Interesting sight

This is a fire rainbow; the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena. The picture was captured this week on the Idaho/Washington states border and lasted an hour.

The clouds have to be Cirrus, at least 20,000 feet (6 km) in the air with just the right amount of ice crystals and the sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees.

Wonderfull image Perna....

I'm curious how the phenomena was able to continue for an hour considering the specific requirements of sun angel...

The clouds follow the sun?

Don't know. The sun doesn't move (for us to see at least :-) the earth does so maybe the cloud was moving in sync, LOL. And I imagine there was lots of cloud? Maybe different parts of it were illuminated at different times; you know how a rainbow kind of fades over time? Kind of like an eclipse I guess.
