Just wondering who is a musician.

My primary instrument is the flute. I have been playing for almost 20 years (since I was 8). I also play piccolo.

When I was 19, I started teaching private music lessons. It that time, I also learned how the play the clarinet and saxophone.

I played in bands and orchestras for years while I was in school. Once I got out of school, I would sometimes play Bossonova music at a Chilean restaurant with a guitar player I worked with at the music store.

A couple of years ago I started taking piano lessons. I was absolutely loving it, but I stopped once I moved out of NY. I do miss that.

Although I am classicaly trained, I enjoy doing improv as much as I enjoy playing my favorite pieces. My husband is also a musician, so I play improv along with his guitar music. We have recorded songs together in our basement (which is basically a recording studio).

What do you play? When did you start? In what capacity did you play? Do you still?

sweet, pink! I also play the flute!

I've been playing flute for about 7 or 8 years, I picked up the guitar around 3 years ago, I've been playing drums for a couple of years, and I also play the bass from time to time.

Not gonna lie though, the guitar is my favorite.

My dad plays drums. He cannot read a note of music, wouldn't even now what a quarter note is, but he is an amazing drummer.

Guitar is my husband's main instrument. I only know how to play a little bit.

Thanks for responding!

Yeah, i can't translate guitar music, but I'm pretty good w/ reading the flute music. I'm sure if i really asserted myself w/ the guitar notes I'd pick it up pretty quickly, but i rather enjoy just going with the flow when playing =] =]

I'm a total amateur but I love it.

I played piano very seriously when I was a kid / teenager until we moved house & my father sold the piano.

About 5 years ago I decided I wanted to get back into music and started learning the harp. I currently play a celtic or lever harp, but really want to buy a concert grande pedal harp (the kind you see in orchestras) I'll probably make a road trip to Chicago this summer to Lyon & Heally's showroom to pick one out.

I love playing latin American harp music and Baroque music.

I love to make music but come from a sort of punk rock background. So as I list the following instruments, please note that I don't imply mastery, just basic competence.

The list from most experience to least:

Keys/Piano - Played in a band and use it for solo projects. It's also the only instrument I still play with any frequency. I can read sheet music but still depend on memorization to play well.

Guitar - Played in a band and used it for solo projects. My current guitar has a bad pickup and I have no idea when I'll get it fixed. Can only read tab.

Trombone - Started in junior high and eventually performed in the high school jazz band. I could read music extremely well but prefered improv. Unfortunately it's been at least ten years since I've picked up a trombone.

Tuba - This was my concert band and marching band instrument. I moved to this after a few years of concert trombone so that our band would have some bass (we were severely lacking). Same situation as trombone though, I used to be great but haven't touched this instrument in at least a decade.

So that's it. I dabble in a few other things but not enough to count them.

I play piano and flute. I've been playing flute since 4th grade (six years) and piano for two years. I guess I could be considered intermediate in both. I'm just now learning expression on the piano since I recently got a digital piano with fully-weighted keys. And I tend to consistently be second chair when I play flute, but I really prefer playing harmonies.

I got many compliments on my piccolo-playing when I was in marching band, but I hated that thing with a passion. Any musicians out there?

I'm 21, I've been playing piano since I was 4, cello since I was 7, singing since I was 7 and percussion since I was 13 - I have a grade 8 in all of them. I picked up acoustic guitar when I was 17, and I'm still teaching myself that. I've got about 6 weeks left at music college, and then I'm taking a gap year before doing my masters in composition.

I also work as a musician: I teach private lesson, I accompany dance, voice classes and auditions at college, and I play piano and sing in a restuarnt twice a week.

I write loads too - singer-songwriter stuff, and choral/orchestra/chamber music.

Hmmm, I guess I could say music is my life then! Any musicians out there?

I play violin and, to some extent, keyboard. I've been playing the violin since I was 7 (I'm 18 now), and I started playing keyboard when I was about 10 or 11 but didn't play it for much of high school.

Violin, I got my grade 8 in March last year, I played in my high school orchestra and ceilidh band and I'm now playing in the orchestra at uni. Keyboard, I've never really played in front of other people, with the exception of music lessons I had at school, but someday I'd like to get good enough to join a band.

I did used to play the recorder, too, but since I haven't played one since I was about 6 years old I'm not sure that counts. Any musicians out there?

I play clarinet and bass-clarinet. I can also play the sax and the flute some. I played snare drum in marching band and also the big drum.

I can play some piano by ear. But my passion lies in singing. I started singing when I was smaller and I sang in competition throughout Jr. High and High School. I also sing in church choir and sing solo's.

Music has been a big part of my life. I feel music is what kept me going most of the time.

I play piano and have since I was 7 I believe... I stopped taking lessons years ago though, and have just been teaching myself songs. I never really liked lessons... it was too strict a regime for me and I liked to play on my own time, with my own selection of music.

My favourite pieces to play are mostly Elton John. His songs are beautifully written, and so fun to play! Any musicians out there?

Just this past xmas I got a guitar, so I'm slowly teaching myself how to play that too.

I've dabbled in multiple intruments (mostly drums, but also the recorder, piano, indian flute, and my favorite instrument to play is the Yangqin...even though I've never owned one) , but I've never been very good and it's frustrating that I can't read music too, but, my stepdad has a been a musician for over 30 years now, so I still live the sort of life style that comes attached

I played the cello up until 6 months ago. That is the only instrument I've ever been able to play succesfully with my small hands.

I'm a self-taught guitarist, and used to sing, but haven't been in the singing mood lately.
