We finally put water in ours then slowly started adding life to it. The plants aren't doing too good but the fish, Japanese Trap Door Snails and expecially the polywogs have really been fun to watch. This morning, I watched as a polywog attached itself to a snail and ate the string moss that it came with. It was so cute! IDK, to me it looked like they were kissing. Anybody have a pond on their property?

Can't wait till the fish grow and the polywogs turn to frogs!

The goldfish are learning where to come when I feed. That's fun, too. Yesterday, we added four more fish; two Shubunkins and two Red Capped Fan Tailed goldfish. There were already some feeder goldfish in the pond. Some gold and some grey. The grey ones look like little shadows swimming around in the water. No koi, though! My oldest son had some and it's a loosing battle between the herons and racoons. For some reason, they leave the goldfish alone.

Gonna try to talk hubby into either making or ordering some electric or LED minilights to make it look like there's fireflies glowing in the evenings.

Can't wait! This is so much fun!

I'd like to hear experiences from those that have ponds. Anybody have a pond on their property?

Oh, don't talk to me about ponds! Anybody have a pond on their property? Anybody have a pond on their property?

We had a pond a few years a go and had lots of lovely fish in it and then one summer a whacking great heron/stork thing came along and gobbled them all up! Anybody have a pond on their property?

Shortly after that, my children had some friends round who decided, for some unknown reason, to go trampling in the pond wth a big garden fork! Punctured the lining and all the water drained away. So hubby decided to reline it, this was about 5 years ago, I'm still waiting for him to start it!

Good luck with yours! Anybody have a pond on their property? Anybody have a pond on their property? Anybody have a pond on their property?

Yes, my next door neighbor had his expensive koi visited by a heron while he was away at work :-) However, last year he had a huge frog came to visit and, over time, the goldfish disappeared, LOL. It's very small and I had a lot of fun because "my" ducks (female had a nest 2-3 neighbors down) would eat in my yard then waddle through the fence and sit in his pond for a bit before wandering back to the nest for the day. Must be nice, one stop shopping?

oh wow...we only deal with natural ponds! Ours has like an underground water thingy where fish and water comes in at....so we don't have to deal with any liners or anything like that.

{{{{{{{{{{Peg}}}}}}}}}}}} I'm so sorry! I had the idea of putting some type of net over the water to protect my fish and found out they really make those nets! Just to be safe, though, I'm not getting any Koi. They're too expensive!

My oldest son that has the money to blow on such stuff had bought a $90 Koi. Gave it to a heron not too long after he got it. Anybody have a pond on their property? LOL I wouldn't pay that for a dog! Anybody have a pond on their property? My son says the racoons and herons leave the goldfish alone, even if they're as big as the Koi. Must be the smell? Anybody have a pond on their property?

Hubby got sorta upset with me because I've been adding stuff to control "green water" and the alae. He wants to leave it natural. IDK, I don't do green water. Anybody have a pond on their property? When we got the snails, I wanted to scrape the string moss off them, but he wouldn't let me. LOL Good thing, because I wouldn't have seen the pollywog eating it off the snail. Anybody have a pond on their property?

That duck wasn't dumb! LOL We're gonna have frogs by the score; two as a matter of fact. Hubby ordered 20 pollywogs! We'll see if they stick around. He also wants to get what they call "Peepers." I think they're little tree frogs. We've been told that THEY will stick around because they need the water and they're too tiny to migrate. We'll see. I might be tempted to keep them in a big cage where they can access the ground as well as the water. But then, what do I know about peepers. LOL

I'm hoping the smaller fish grow fast enough so that when the pollywogs turn to frogs, they won't eat them. They do get carniverous when they're growing. Anybody have a pond on their property?

When the water gets a little clearer, I'll take some pics while I'm feeding my babies. If they come out good, I'll post them. Anybody have a pond on their property?

That's mostly what we're starting with, is starter goldfish. I was amazed at how big they grow in a pond! Anybody have a pond on their property? The shubunkins will get a foot long as well as the Red Caps! WOW! They're so little and so cute right now! I think they'll be great when they get bigger, too. Anybody have a pond on their property?

You sound like us, Kathy. LOOOOOTTTTS of frogs! Well, they WILL be someday. LOL

Our "waterfall" consists of half a wine barrel with a hole on the edge. I'd rather have the sound of a waterfall, but any sound of water has it's calming effect. My son's pond has a great waterfall and is surrounded by sandstone slabs. It's really great!

You're lucky, Goth! You have no upkeep or maintenance. Anybody have a pond on their property? Nature does a much better job, anyway. You probably get quite a few surprises when you visit, too, I'll bet. Anybody have a pond on their property?

I can only imagine the size of that tank! Koi need lots of space. Keep the Koi in the tank inside the house if you want to keep them safe. Too expensive to leave outside! Anybody have a pond on their property? The shubunkins get just as big and are as colorful. Anybody have a pond on their property?
