I saw Hancock tonight with my husband and son..... and we loved the movie.
The Movie was full of action and comic relief - the audience laughed so hard that one lady started to snort like a pig. And what can one say about Will Smith, but AWESOME!! - a Hero with an Attitude that gets adjusted. I give HANCOCK - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

my friends have been hyping hancock to me. i was forwarded a good review from the new yorker mag.
I have had a long-standing argument with the rest of the world that will smith cannot act and should go back to making fun music. Nevertheless I might see this one cause the new yorker actually compared him to clint eastwood in this. pi |

I decided to dislike will smith after he ruined the film of john guare's beautiful play, six degrees of seperation. He was cast solely because he's a celebrity. He needed acting lessons badly. In later movies smith is surrounded by so many powerful actors doing action stuff--tommy lee jones for instance-- that smith never had to act. you just respond to smith because jones makes him believable. if tommy lee jones was acting opposite a broomstick, he could make you believe the broomstick is larry olivier if he wants to.
I find the same formula in action buddy movies with danny glover--a great talent-- and mel gibson who has a range of maybe two emotions indicated by one facial expression of crazy. getting back to 'i robot' i only saw clips of it on cable. In fairness smith did do a pretty good job in the sequel to coppolla's 'the conversation' but smith had gene hackman to fall back on. I just think the guy is a light weight who had it easy his whole life and lacks depth. He also comes across as conceited. now that he is older and uglier he is becoming more interesting to me. pi ![]() |

I would have to disagree, I think his performance as Mohamad Ali was superb (I think he was nominated for an oscar on that one), his acting in legend was also excellent ( he basically had to carry 90 percent of the film by himself.)
I think his performance depends on the material but you are right that he does gain a lot of audience sympathy because he packs an undenible charisma to each is own though TJ |

I personally liked the movie "Six Degrees of Seperation" with Will Smith in it and I think he did a wonderful job with his acting. 2.) It would take more than Tommy Lee Jones to make me like another actor (but you did remind me how good Will was in MIB). I have liked Will way back from his acting days in "Fresh Prince" - and my son and I still watch this show most nights on Nick. 3.) If any one has ever seen any of the interviews Will Smith has given they will see that he is far from conceited - they will see that he is a good person, husband and father... his kids mean the world to him and they come first. Will protects his family at all cost. And - UGLY.... No way - Will has become a Hunk of a Man in his older days. |

i don't mean he is still conceited or that he is conceited as a person. he is conceited as an actor.
i think fresh prince tv show could be very funny at times because of the writing and producing of andy borowitz now of the borowitzreport.com casting his infant son as his co-star in 'the pursuit of happyness' and having put his progeny on the stage with real child actress abigail breslin during the oscars still comes across as conceited to me. i don't doubt smith is a nice person although i never met him. i am talking about film this isn't a personal attack. and i don't mean to say he is ugly in a very bad way--he is just no longer candy-apple cute the way hollywood wants them. thats why smith can reprise charlton heston's role as the 'omega man' in 'i am legend.' heston had played a lot of ugly weathered handsome men as did clint eastwood. that appears to be the way smith is packaging himself now and it does require acting chops he never had before. pi |

I watched a interview with Will and his son that played in the "Pursuit of Happyness" and Will said that it was his son that wanted to act (came to him and asked) - up until that point Will was against getting his children getting involved in the public eye at such a young age.... his daughter is acting now as well. |

this movie has a relentless viral marketing campaign. quotes from this flick have appeared in a wikipedia stub today.
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Hancock_%28film%29 i don't think these quotes are worth 12 bucks to hear IRL. i will wait for the dvd. pi |

All I can say is that I enjoyed the movie. When I pay to see a film, I don't care what teh actor's personal life is all about. I don't care if the person is "cute." All I care is that if I go to a movie to laugh, I hope it makes me laugh. If I go for excitement, I hope it is exciting.
I went to Hancock for a laugh and that is what I got. That makes him a good actor in my books...and all the other actors in teh movie. Two thumbs up. |

We've decided to go see this one tonight. It was a toss up between this and Get Smart. I never got to see Indiana Jones. So that one will have to wait till it comes out on DVD. I hope this is as good as you guys are saying it is lol. Its the last outing with my hubby for awhile before he starts his new job.

Well... I'm not disappointed in the movie, but I'm not happy with it eather. Waaaaaaaaaay too much violence for me. The kind that gives me nightmares . The action part of it was great. But I wish I had spent my money on another movie.

**** I don't care if the person is "cute."**** if i have to look at an actors face twenty feet tall for two hours in a seat thats two sizes too small for my *** honey then they better be damn cute. ***Two thumbs up.**** theres a math problem here. i don't doubt you have two thumbs ingrid/dave. But two thumbs up means two reviewers have the same opinion. i count one post from one person. i am sorry my opinions aggravate you. but at least this is a frivolous topic. harmless to most of us. pi |

Everybody has an opinion and everybody looks for different things in movies. Some people like to critique things in movies, some like to assess the degree of action to dialog. Everybody is different. My only point was to identify what I look for in a movie. What you look for in a movie is different and that is your choice. Ipersonally, don't care what you say about a movie. If you wish to take offense to my statement "I don't care if teh person is cute" then that is your choosing. If you wish to critique my opinion of the movie, that is your right also. If you wish to critique my vocabulary, that is also your choosing but I don't wish to be drawn into a topic unrelated to the heading. I liked the movie. That is it. It is unrelated to you in any way or form. I like the movie. |

``Hancock has grossed 107 million dollars since last wednesday. Apparently it dominated the foreign box office as well. This is smith's breakout movie.
I guess the entirety of western civilization disagrees with me. This isn't the first time they were wrong and I was right. I never voted for bush,eg. Ah well, live and let live. lol pi |

I heard it was a bomb. I for one won't be catching it @ the theater. Think Will Smith could have found a better movie to play in this summer.

The reviews for this one have not been good, no knock on Will Smith, I think he still is a great actor, but he has been in some bad films, the Wild Wild West was a a total disrespect of the TV series.
So for me, it will be a Blue Ray rental in a couple of months |

I agree Rhapsody. I don't mind a movie that is slightly off the mark for ratings, as long as the actors I like are in it. Sometimes, however, a movie is so bad that it takes one great actor to pull it through.
I just like to laugh in movies. |
