Not only is Greta from Appleton, her dad was Joe McCarthy's (also from Appleton) lawyer, or some such. They're tied up together somehow, but I forget exactly how. I did a huge ton of research on McCarthy in grad school, as he's a prime example of how to play the press.
I think Brett has forgotten that football is a TEAM sport, and that no one player, no matter how great, is bigger than the team. I read somewhere that he wanted the team to give him up to TRAINING CAMP to make a decision. Um -- that's post-draft and all -- come late July and he says "sorry I'm done" and then they have no QBs behind Rodgers?? I agree -- he needs to grow up and stick to his decisions. |

Agreed Candy, you've hit all of the same points that I was arguing with hubby about! (Great minds ey) And let's see, what did they draft? Hmmmm That's right it was two QB? I wonder why they would have done that! Oh that's right, he RETIRED!
Did you see the interview? Greta pointed out that he had not yet signed a single form offically declaring his retirement. He kept saying that his mistake was retiring early, but he had a reason for that. Did I miss the reason? Or was it that lack of a 100% committment thing?

I couldn't bear to watch it live and am working up the stomach to watch the video. I'm just so DONE with the whole thing.
![]() Last I heard was that the guy from ESPN who Favre texted in March to say he was done said that their conversation (apparently proved by the texts) is a complete flip-flop from what Favre is now saying. Another sports hero with clay feet......it's getting old. ![]() |

Well I've seen bits of the rest of the interview on the news. He was complaining about the personnel choices of Thompson. BUT these were not the reason he retired. I wish I knew what he's up to, looks like he's trying to use his popularity to get rid of Thompson. Based on comments he's made about fellow players, coaches, and GM, I can't imagine him being able to come back. Who would be willing to play with him?
There has already been demonstrations in Green Bay, but not everyone is on his side. Many fans are as frustrated as I am and say we're the Green Bay Packer's, not the Farves. Eleven days until camp. It's like a soap opera now, can't wait to see what happens next.

Yeah, the Milwaukee paper had an interview today with Willie Davis. He said "it's a sad time to be a Packer."
Dude: When you are ticking off the Hall of Famers, it's time to give it up. You know? And Willie Davis has had a very successful post-football life. I don't think a lot of people will take it well if he shows up to camp, like he's threatened to. I am just so tired of it all!! |

But it is like a soap opera! Each day something new comes out. I don't think he has a PR guy that he's run this through.

I think it would be funny if he became a Viking. Ive always hated Favre, being from MN i think its understandable but would love to have him here for one year. So i hope they release him even if thats unrealistic to hope for

His long time QB coach is in MN is he not? I'd really be surprised if they did release him. There's a lot of bad blood flowing right now.

Greg Jennings just came out and said today that "the team is united behind Aaron Rodgers as our quarterback."
HMMM. If your PLAYERS have moved on without you, ya think it might be time to, oh, I dunno, GIVE IT UP???!!!! Mariucci used to be his QB coach, no? I forget where he finally landed. Sherman and Rhodes are at colleges now, I think, and good ol Holmgren (grumble grumble growl) in Seattle, of course, and there've been a number of others I can't keep track of. I gave up watching soap operas a long time ago for a reason, actually, largely because my own life turned into one. This one isn't any more fun! ![]() |

Farve’s leadership has definitely helped the team in the past, but it sounds very much like he felt that gave him carte blanche to decide who was hired and fired. These are his own words. Whatever was he thinking slinging mud at Thompson? Especially since he said that these decisions had nothing to do with his decision for early retirement; it only spoke to the lack of trust he has in Thompson.
Locally, these interviews have done more harm than good. Prior to this fiasco, he had the persona of being a country boy that just liked to play football; the boy next door that got his shot and ran with it. Now he’s gotten too big for his britches. I truly understand now what the organization was saying when they told him they wanted to protect the legacy of Bret Farve. I say KUDOS to the team for supporting Aaron Rodgers! Now to get the fans on board! You and I both know that the first mistake the man makes you’re going to hear “Farve would have done … we would have won that game with Farve.” Although inevitable it’ll be worse now that “we could have had him back.” 10 more days till training camp!

Yeah, I can imagine it's pretty horrible in GB, but it seems to be horrible across the state. I'm near Eau Claire and it's all anyone can talk about here too, and all of it has become negative toward Favre.
At the risk of repeating myself -- I just want this to be OVER. On the plus side, the Chiefs (my childhood team) train in Black River Falls, about an hour from here, and I might go check out their open training camp practices. And the Rams, my other favorite team, are training north of Milwaukee this year, so that gives me an excuse to go visit all my friends. LOL! |

I hear he showed up at the HOF thing, but I deliberately haven't watched the news tonight.
However, a fellow journo who writes a grammar and usage blog came up with these. I thought you (all of us Packer fans, actually) could use a laugh! ======== Favre saga goes from bad to verse By Kathy Schenck Saturday, Jul 19 2008, 07:45 PM Packers fans are so wound up over the Brett Favre saga that some are resorting to verse and song to express their feelings. On a posting about Mark Chmura's opinion on his old teammate, a commenter named Digger posted Favre-related lyrics to the tune of Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." It devolved from there. (I'm going to quote only the clean-ish ones.)

Quote: A record-breaking legend, we're told Was always to wear Green and Gold But now a release Is sought by this piece? This offseason crap's getting old.

Quote: Some wonder, has Brett Favre gone daft? We already went through the draft! Others say, You're all whack, Bring the best QB back!
