Well, I got up really early this morning to attend to the new puppy, who is doing really well with his crate and potty training...such a sweet little fella. I went out to water my roses with rose food, and one of my Maine Coon cats was out there. He's the sweetest, friendliest of my three cats. He isn't afraid of the puppy, and they greet each other , even nuzzle each other. I wanted the puppy to come inside with me, but he wanted to stay out with the kitty, so I picked up the cat to come inside, puppy following. This coon cat has a huge, long tail, and it got stuck in the door, which slammed on it, while I was holding it. I was trying to get the door open, which was stuck, and I got bitten and scratched terribly, with cat howling in pain!
I have scratches all over my arms, as well as one deep claw in my breast! I washed the wounds and put Neosporin on them. Should I go to the doctor?

Patty, I would, especially if you've not had a tetanus shot for awhile. You dont know where the cats been for sure. You did the right thing I think by getting it washed and the neosporin. But if that claw went in that deep, I would think antibiotics might be needed. Sorry to hear this happened for you and the cat.

Take care
Beth

Definitely go to a Dr., Cat bites can become infected quite easily. In fact it's the norm. My T was bitten by one of her cats some time ago, and she had a really nasty infection where they had to inject antibiotics.

Take care or yourself and your poor cat.

yes see the dr asap. my late husband was bitten on the finger by a cat and ended up in the hospital for 5 days and surgery. it was horrible. I would worry more about the bites than the scratches.

At least call your MD; cat scratches can yield a multitude of problems. I had a friend once that after being scratched contracted cat-scratch-fever; it settled on her optic nerve and she had severe visual problems that ended up permanent.
