I know...I've posted ad nauseum here about the fleas. I've done everything for the flea situation, and for now, my house seems free of them, but the new pup continues to be plagued with them. I know they're out there in the grass, and being a Golden Retriever, he loves to be outside. Three days ago, I used Adams Flea and Tick Dip with Pyrethrins, which is a concentrate in a bottle. Little pup "Fozzie" was free of fleas for almost three days, and I brush him often checking for the buggers! Today, again, they were all over him and he was crying! Desperate, I dipped him again in the same solution, and he is drying now in his kennel cage. The bottle said "every 7 days" so I hope I haven't over-exposed him by doing this so soon!
Since I've only had this pup for about 10 days, maybe I"ve given him too many baths and treatments. ???

I feel so bad for your puppy! Pup was crying with fleas today... Can you go to the vet and tell her/him the whole situation and see what they say? I'd be concerned too...also, there is a book that may help with the flea problem (and others in the future...) called Keep Your Dog Healthy the Natural Way by Pat Lazarus. It has a lot of advice that is holistic, nutrition-based, etc..

I just googled for yard treatments. here is one link for you. I can't recommend any of this but looks promising.

He is free of fleas once again, but only temporarily, I'm sure. I think a yard treatment will be necessary.
Sky has recommended a yard spray by Ortho which sounds promising.
I do think the fleas have developed immunity to lots of the flea products. I've never had this problem before.
Thanks all of you!

if u have commercial "bug men" like terminix in your area, i highly recommend it! it eliminated our flea problem completely. if you cant or dont have that option i would also like to recommend using a baby shampoo on your puppy, unlike using dish soap baby shampoo wont strip the puppys natural oils. doing so can also lead to itchy skin making you think he has fleas when its just really dry skin. just wet pup down, put a generous amount of baby shampoo (leave it a little thick) this smothers the fleas, and let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse pup again for about 5 more minutes. i hope this helps! i was a dog trainer a a local petstore and thats what i suggested, and used on my dogs.

Patty, Hon, I think it's time to call in the big guns. Call an exterminator! Have him do the yard as well as the house. If they're in your yard, it won't be long and they'll be back in the house. It's time to get ruthless!

Poor pup! Pup was crying with fleas today...

Thanks, all of you for your concern and suggestions. Fozzie is still free of fleas this morning.
September, the yard spraying by a commercial company is a good idea. I am holding off on this, however, because of two reasons: I have a garden in the back yard, and I'm concerned with chemical runoff into it. Should I be concerned? The other reason, an immediate one, is that I go today to get my twin grandsons, age 6, who will be in the back yard occasionally. After their visit this week, I will re-assess the problem.
Interestingly, the other night when I first posted about the pup crying, I was doing a lot of research, and someone had misted their grass with Pinesol and said it helped. I went out and did this in the dark with a strong solution. It seems to have helped, but it may just be my imagination!

Please contact your vet and purchase a product called Frontline...apply behind the neck..will keep you pup free of ticks and fleas for one month even if they sleep with them..LOL

My dogs have access to my acreage and many more..it would be near impossible to protect them from the vast populations of various insects in such a large world...

Best of luck to you and your best freind..

Lenny,
I did apply the Frontline to the pup and he still has fleas. I am thinking of doing another application, but I have to wait a while, as they say not to do it for at least two weeks. I also used Frontline on the three cats, and they have also had fleas.
Frontline has always worked for me before, but I"ve read many threads on various pet forums where people say it is not working.
