I paid for the pup to be neutered thru the animal shelter. He is about three months old, I'm guessing. I can see his little testicles barely. I also want to have his dewclaws removed. When I called the vet to make an appt. for the removal of the dewclaws, the tech told me it would be better to have it all done at once, with one anesthesia. How old do you recommend for neutering? I should call the vet again, I guess.
Suggestions appreciated.
And, oh, the pup is so sweet! But today, one of my cats brought him a freshly killed bird. I couldn't catch him to take it away. He was in heaven!

if the testicles are all the way down it would be ok to do it then. maybe wait another month.

I know you're right, Bebop. He;s too young right now. I was hoping I could do this before returning to the teaching job in a week, but will have to arrange it later.
Thanks,
Patty

Vets are doing neutering much younger than before. Sometimes at three months. I say, the earlier the better! Good luck with your new pup! Enjoy!!!

I heard if you do the neutering too early, the dog tends to get fat and be inactive. I don't know if that is true or not or just a rumor.

What are dew claws?

It's a recommended procedure to get them removed. They're just in the way, hard to clip.
