Think about it. Why are fronts cut low? Is there any possible reason other than to show, or hint at, the breasts? What does that say?
Whatever it says, if the person doing it is not aware of its significance, and possible consequences, and not being aware, is unprepared to deal with it, then more trouble may come than the person is prepared for. If a person is aware and does it knowing what it probably means and how it will seem to others, and is prepared for that, then I say it is their decision and their right.

I suspect some students may be dressing without parents present. I know, when I was growing up, both my parents left for work around 6 a.m., and it was up to me to get myself and younger sister ready and out the door. So, if this is the case with students nowadays, they can put on whatever they choose! Also, as already stated, they can change into something else once at school, or take off a covering top on the bus!
It's not a big problem for me, but as I said before, some teachers make it their mission to police this dress thing. I'm all for school uniforms! And, by the way, loving wearing my own school uniforms...polos and khakis! Patty |

Next staff meeting I'd suggest the principal address it in a letter to the parents or at the PTA or something, if only to give poor Hawk a rest, LOL. Reinterate the school dress code rules and come up with a "policy" that circumvents lectures from Hawk.

LOL, Perna, "the Hawk" is a good label for her! Today, at the end of the day, I have 6th graders who come into my room after P.E. all hot and red-faced, thirsty and tired. One little girl came in wearing a hot sweater over her T. I always let them go get drinks in the water fountain, and even let them store bottles of water in my room fridge. I let her take off her sweater, and she was wearing a camisole type top with thin strings for support. I let her keep her sweater off as we went to the comuter lab, but told her, Ms.XXXX would confront her about it if she saw her (she's next door, remember). Unprofessional of me to tell the little girl this, but I did add to the whole class that straps are supposed to be at least 2 inches. The computer lab was cool, and before leaving, I went to get the little girl's sweater (right across from my room). And she has no breasts to speak of, but Ms. XXX would have jumped on this. I just hope that informing her that such tops are not acceptable will prevent this in the future.

Seeker - my parents also left for work before I got ready for school, but they also knew what was in my closet. When I was in elementary school, two girls in high school came to school in dresses every day (due to religious reasons) and changed into jeans once they got to school. We live in a very small town, how they managed to keep it from their parents for so long I'll never know. And by small I mean 80 students k-12.
