Ooooh I have two Ugly Dolls (and I'm 26 years old haha)! They were gifts for Christmas one year, I was so excited about them after reading about them. They're really soft and well-made but I think it would be possible to make your own, I would start out with some pre-made design kits for stuffed animals because they show you how to make the turns and put eyes in and what-not (I still have a dolphin I made from one of those, it's really durable, I've had it for 10 years). I have seen them in specialty gift shops (like Hallmark) but I can't recall if they were as expensive as on the website or not.
