I was on the FAO Schwartz webpage and saw them. They are ugly but yet kind of cute. I was wondering if any of you had one. I thought they were kind of pricey for just a piece of felt and some buttons and thought hey I could make one cheaper than that. In fact I think I might do it because I want one but don't want to shell out $20 for one. Do any of you with children have them or go the website? I poked around on the website and it was kind of cute. I like the idea behind the Ugly doll the idea is its ok to have imperfections.

Here is a link so you can see what the ugly dolls look like:

I wish I knew how to make them
The price really depends on what size:

$50 for a 24"
$20 for "Ice Lodge"
$10 for "Little Uglies"
$6 for a keychain

The price online is pretty cheap, but I could of sworn I've seen them in stores for cheaper...

I think I've seen them before. They are cute. The dolls that I think are ugly are those troll dolls that were popular a while back. I never understood their appeal.

What I would like to know is why any type of appearance should be called ugly? Save that word for people with "ugly" personalities, like those who constantly advertise to us that we have to look a certain way and if we don't, then we are unattractive. As far as I am concerned it just teaches kids to associate certain appearances with ugliness. That is not right. Every living creature is a beauty to life.

LOL They're cute in their ugliness. It should be easy to copy one or more. They're kinda like my "dammit dolls", just two pieces.

I thought you were just saying that they were ugly at first then I saw that the name actually was UGLY doll. That is a really neat idea.

My girls have several of them. I think they're cute. The ones we have cost less than $20. Maybe try a different store than FAO Schwartz, which is very pricey.

Ya know, i am the odd man out here, but I do not like them. I'm not sure why, but i think it is because they do not smile.

Life is funny, I still have a "troll" doll and totally adore it and wish I still had the one I had as a child. I also had a toy called a "moon goon". it had a plastic body like a troll but was a little alien with white hair sticking up on its head sort of like the trolls. It was so ugly it was cute.

Variety is the spice of life as my mom used to say.

I dont have one, but my best friend has one. She loves it. They are really adorable, and creative, and...expensive. hah, I guess the thought is, do you care about the brand of the toy? or the idea behind the toy?

I don't own one because I make my own dolls and stuffed animals. I don't know how well you are at sewing, but I'm not terribly good, and I've made several qualified "ugly dolls" from my own imagination.

They're very nice, but try making an activity with your child and have them draw their own creature? Then you could take them with you to buy some fabrics, felt, soft things like that, bright colours, nice buttons for details, different thread colours, you could show some stitching on the seams with a complimentary colour to the fabric? All these things I think about when making a doll.

I think it would be fun for both you and your child (im assuming you have children) or for anyone else who reads this, If I had kids, I'd do this. But I don't so I just make myself dolls on a whim usually.

hope this helps!
