I've followed this case since the little girl's disappearance back in the summer. Now, it seems, they have found the remains. I am interested to hear what all of you think of the mother, Casey, who appears to be a pathological liar, as well as the grandparents, Cindy and George, who still seem to be in denial. The grandmother (Cindy), and her daughter (Casey) relationship seems to be a key somehow...very codependent. It is so sad.

I think they are still waiting on the dna testing to come back but it sure looks like it might be the little girl. as far as the mom goes I think she is out there somewhere. the grandma is the one that called the police if I am not mistaken saying there was a smell to the car? I don't think the grandparents had anything to do with it. but I suppose it will all come out soon!

I agree, Bebop, that the grandmother had nothing to do with the child's disappearance, but she seems to be in denial about what her daughter probably did to the little girl. The grandparents clearly adored the little 2 year old, and I'm sure it is hard for them to deal with the fact that their own daughter was/is capable of being such a sociopath.

Yeah I agree that the mom Casey is an interesting character, I haven't followed the case real close because I am supposed to limit the amount of news that I watch. The snippets I have watched makes me think that this is a very odd case, the grandfather seems to have come around and doesn't seem to be in denial as much as the grandmother. Of course we may never know for sure what happened to that little girl and why it happened.

Its sad to say the least... and I have to admit that I am finding it hard to feel any thing for the mother because she seems so cold - as though she doesn't care about what she did to such a sweet innocent little girl.

Hi Seeker

I've been following the news coverage closely. She strikes me as a spoiled child who accidentally got pregnant and was forced to "do the right thing." She still lived with her parents, so I suspect she saw Caylee more as a little sister than a daughter. I also suspect she had a LOT of resentment toward Caylee....she was no longer the favorite child in the home.

I was a single parent too, but I had my own home and raised my own child. I used to laugh at my dad when I'd bring my son over to visit him. As soon as I pulled up, he'd come running out to get my son. He'd carry my son into the house, slamming the door in my face. It wasn't intentional - it was just that he loved my son so much, the focus was on him. I took it as a compliment. Grandchildren are gifts - dad really liked his gift.

When my dad became sick, I moved back to their home to help care for him - but it didn't work out. It was natural for my father to take over the father role with my son, and it inadvertently took away my authority as "mom" - I was just the daughter. It would have been better if I had them come live with me, but dad didn't want to move. I found another place of my own nearby where I could be close enough to care for them and still be a mother to my son.

Babies are cute and cuddly, but it can also wear out your nerves over time. Children can place a serious damper on a person's social life and future goals. Casey was upset about not being able to party with her friends because she had to "babysit."

I see some mothers laugh about medicating their children with cough syrup on road trips to keep them quiet. I've heard there's a trend nowadays to give them a little chloroform, claiming it's safe. Casey was researching chloroform dosing.

I think it's also possible she may have intentionally accidentally killed her in an act of rage over the burden of having to be a mother for the rest of her life and losing her favored status within the family.

I'm very concerned about "babies having babies," especially when they are still dependent on their own parents. It's just another sibling.

What a sad case for all involved.

Thanks for your replies on this, Gimme, Rhap, and Kathy. Interesting points you bring up, KathyM. I had not heard of any "trend" toward drugging one's child to sedate them. That is so careless, cruel, and dangerous, but it seems this must have been the case with this mother, Casey.
I am waiting to hear the findings of the forensics lab regarding DNA of the remains found last week.
