Okay...I'll admit I rarely cook since I'm alone, but with this cold weather, and feeling cabin-feverish, today I got a hankering for potatoe soup. I went to Walmart, and ran into a coworker, our school counselor. We both had potatoes in our cart...for potatoe soup! We both agreed that it's potatoe soup weather.
Then, I called my sister who makes really good potatoe soup, and she told me she adds some chicken broth or chicken bouillon cubes to it. I would never have thought of that.

Please share your favorite cold weather foods.

I love chili when it's cold. We found a homemade recipe that we love and have been making it lately. It is usually gone in two days! LOL

Hi onlymedid,

Chili... Yum! That's a good winter time meal. That's on my favorites list too.

My other cold weather favorite is chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes.

I also love rice and pasta dishes during the cold weather months.

Okay guys... now I am making myself hungry. I'm going to have to sign off and head to the kitchen, lol.

All those dishes sound delish! I agree chili is an all-time favorite.
I've diced all the ingredients for the potato soup and it is simmering on the stove. One thing about soup and chili, it is always better the second day!

Well I haven't been snowed in for a few years, but I used to love to spend a leisurely wintery Sunday making Italian Wedding Soup! Add some fresh crusty Italian bread and ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well, we never get snowed in here in the southern US, but it does get cold here. My cold weather favorites are

chili,

stew, especially with fresh, hot bread

big ol' bowl of oatmeal for breakfast

a pot of hot tea

homemade mac and cheese

It's potato soup here as well. As a special treat eaten with fried bread, not healthy, but sure tastes good. Growing up as a northern girl, in the winter months we ate a lot of roasted beef, chicken, turkey etc. Things that took all day to cook and the oven kept the kitchen warm.

But I have to say my favorite go-to comfort food is a drink. Homemade hot cocoa.

Oooooooh, do I feel the fool! I didn't mean home made mac and cheese I made! I meant the mac and cheese my Mom made. I have no recipe to share because she didn't have one. She threw a little of this and some of that in and it came out great.

I'll see if she still remembers what she used and write it down. No promises though. Alzeheimer's has stolen so much from her already. She may not remember how she made it.

I agree chili is a good snowed in food, as well as ham and beans, chicken noodle soup, tonight I made meatloaf and that was yummy.

I took 1lb hamburger, 1 1/2 handfuls chex cereal all crunched up, 1 egg, 1 handful cheddar cheese, 2 mushrooms cut up. I mixed that all together and baked it for 45 minutes at 350 and then topped it with cheese wiz mixed together with some salsa and put it back in the oven for 10 more minutes to heat up the topping....it was mighty tasty if I do say so myself.

That does sound tasty, Jbug! My mother made the best meatloaf, and I've never been able to replicate it. I don't know what or how she did it!
I'm going to try your recipe! Thanks for sharing!

I have a bean concoction I make...all the time, not just snowed-in like now. It's kind of like chilli, but without the meat. I made some last night. Doesn't need to be refrigerated, and stays in the pot on the stove, getting better each day as I reheat it:

Saute one diced onion. I added diced celery last night because I had some. Then add two cans of Lucks beans, one can of petite diced tomatos (I had the kind with mild green chilis last night), parmesan cheese, tomatoe juice or V8 whatever is onhand, tobasco sauce. Sometimes i add half a can of beer, water. I like the "soup" of this concoction, so I add at least two cups of water. Simmer. The longer it simmers, the better it is. Next day, even better.
