Laughing way to hard here......I know exactly what you mean however & I am sure you are right......sometimes is just a way of having some extra excitement in life (as if life itself isn't exciting enough).

You are right on that being a man thing also......but if he learns at all, you are lucky.....cause the man thing I am used to is that he didn't learn anything the EASY way or the HARD way....he just never learned....lol. Just my luck to find a high IQ with no common sense or ability to learn......sadly, my choice after so many years of giving chances was to head off on my own so it wasn't a problem any more.

Much more fun to have a partner who is willing to learn things the hard way....even if it is a bit frustrating, at least you know he's going to learn & really get it...lol.

We all enjoy your sharing here. As I said, it is wonderful to see a family who sticks together & share & loves life together. It is definitely refreshing to see & hear your fun exchanges.

Yes LK and I are commited to each other and our children. We had a tough time over the last year and it was touch and go but we ultimatly found our way back to each other. We have been together most of our adult life (18 yrs minus a 3 year seperation from 17-20)
We each have our issues. He has alot of past to deal with and I have depression & still dealing daily with grief but we try to lean on each other and prop each other up.
We realize we have a lot to fight for.

eskielover:They have these GPS portable hiking thingies no..much better than a compass.
Is the GPS dohickey easier to use than these cell phone whosamawhatsits?
I had to laugh at the automobile systems though....once you got out into the back country, you were lucky if you got within 1 mile of the correct location. Close enough however most of the time.... so we can add another item to the list of horseshoes & hand grenades.
Well, that would be 7 miles closer than my nose compass

He just refused to listen to what he was told no matter how right it was...he always knew better. Ya think that might be one of the reasons he's in California & I'm here...lol......the problem wasn't only with GPS systems. See, I wasn't arguing with a hi-tech piece of equipment...I was only arguing with an 11 year old, straight A student, top in his school in math & 3rd in the city at chess...errr scratch this point

.....I am curious, my husband had no sense of direction & he never had a broken nose & I never bopped him on the nose with a newspaper to break his magnet. I was tempted many times to hit him over the head with a baseball bat, but resisted....never tempted to use anything as soft as a newspaper......
You should have used the bat...I'm sure you've had a tv, radio, microwave...some outdated P.O.S. that worked better after you hit it. You never really knew why hitting it worked but you always did it & it worked...who knows maybe not a home run swing, but a double down the alley off his left ear lobe might have done wonders

BTW, there is nothing soft about a rolled up newspaper. It makes my nose bleed! Plus I have PTSD & she is suppose to nurture me with soothing sounds, cat nip & soft caresses that make me all goosebumpily like...not SMACK ME

LK, I am sure you will redeem yourself & BC, I am sure he wouldn't do that to you especially with it being Mommies day....
Ohhh dear Goddess I invoke theeMother's Day...that soon
Do you speak pig latin? Ia eedna naa deaia orfa aa resentpa

Of course, a typical man thing would be for LK to buy you the GPS so you could loan it to him so you won't worry.
Never mind, you just responded to the pig latin question right here? How did you do that...it was kinda spooky

I hope you don't catch swine flu from the pig latin

Well my family always said we would see pigs fly if we ever elected a black president & sure enough, swine flu

I think it's easier.....but I'm good with these electronic thingamabobbers. Once you get the connection with the satalite & there is a home spot located & programmed in (really simple to do).....it keeps you in the right direction & you can see the overview as you hike right off the cliff.....know the driving one is great...once you have home programmed in, anywhere you are, you set home & it takes you there....even worked from California to my Kentucky farm....through the huge cities.....not a problem....when you make a wrong turn....it gets you back to the path you need to be on rather than taking you back to where you got lost. Honestly, I never got lost once using the system.....was about to kill the voice at times, but I NEVER GOT LOST.

I had to laugh at the automobile systems though....once you got out into the back country, you were lucky if you got within 1 mile of the correct location. Close enough however most of the time.... so we can add another item to the list of horseshoes & hand grenades.

You are definitely correct on the math there...lol. 1 mile off is much closer than 8.....just a bit more accurate.....thanks all to satalite technologh.

He just refused to listen to what he was told no matter how right it was...he always knew better. Ya think that might be one of the reasons he's in California & I'm here...lol......the problem wasn't only with GPS systems. Yep....I can see the need to argue with the human mind...especially one that is only 11 years old & almost as good as any GPS......definitely see the need to scratch this point...lol. Of course, even though he is straight A, top in his school in math, & 3rd in city at chess........his GPS wasn't proven yet......until you were out with him this time.......so you might have had some slight reason to doubt.....UNTIL NOW that his GPS IS proven.

.....I am curious, my husband had no sense of direction & he never had a broken nose & I never bopped him on the nose with a newspaper to break his magnet. I know we always used a hammer on the test equipment when it didn't work.....after we hit it....it eather worked good or had a good excuse for not working... You are right....maybe I should have hit a double down the alley of his left ear lobe & he would have either started working or had a good reason not.....at least I would have felt better.

BTW, there is nothing soft about a rolled up newspaper. It makes my nose bleed! Plus I have PTSD & she is suppose to nurture me with soothing sounds, cat nip & soft caresses that make me all goosebumpily like...not SMACK ME

The last time I ever used a rolled up newspaper was when one of my eskies made a really bad mess in my room out of spite (mad at me for leaving him alone).....thought it was mostly the loud noise rather than the hardness that was the purpose so I wouldn't hurt him........AAAAHHHHH I bet you don't get Smacked ever.....betting it's only threats, not the action (if anything)....I'm betting you get all the nurturing your PTSD needs from the real sounds of BC.

LK, I am sure you will redeem yourself & BC, I am sure he wouldn't do that to you especially with it being Mommies day....
Ohhh dear Goddess I invoke thee Mother's Day...that soon

LOL.....I didn't realize it either until someone mentioned it the other day. I always though it was at the end of May...not the beginning. Guess that's what happens when you don't have a Mom anymore to make you pay attention. Even though I am a Mom.....she's a sweat kid, but she thinks she has to spend money for Mommies day which I keep telling her you can't spend $ you don't have....it's not necessary to spend $ to show you care.....don't think she gets it....she's 31....she should understand that by now!!!! Think she gets some of her not wise thinking from her dad & won't let go of it even when it doesn't work.

That's my secret.....

I hope you don't catch swine flu from the pig latin
.....opeha ia on'tda etga heta winesa lufa itherea......ckic........but I always did like piggies they are so cute....especially the pigmy ones.....the huge ones are just HUGE.....of course, my Dad's Nebraska cattle farming family never appreciated my admiring pigs...lol.

Well my family always said we would see pigs fly if we ever elected a black president & sure enough, swine flu
Not sure if I want to touch this comment, but thinking your family wasn't far off.....however I think it has to do with philosophy rather than colour personally......thinking pigs fly on philosophy & bring epidemics with it.....not just swine flu epidemics.....thinking there are a lot more epidemics on the path of no return.....but not wanting to get into politics here & get this fun thread closed...lol.

Somehow, I kinda thought so....lol. Just a little obvious how much BC really cares for her LK

AWWWwwww LK~

Don't you feel bad at all. That adventure of yours brings back fantastic memories of my childhood when my dad took us on his infamous shortcuts while hiking in the great outdoor mountains of Lake Tahoe Forest in California.
Then another time (also in the forests of Lake Tahoe), but at a higer elevation close to 10K ft...in search of a "hidden" lake....lol. Both times, leading us off trail, although we had a map, he still was certain of his sense of direction. We became hours off direction, but eventually found safety.

And yet another time in the middle of Nevada when in our family maxi van (the old ones which resembled small buses), filled with all us kids on one of his favored shortcut off road drives. We ended up on a cattle trail leading upward on a side of a mountain which narrowed down only wide enough for...cattle. And surprisingly what do we find in our path blocking us from proceeding forward..but cattle....O.O. (We had to back down off that trail. Now..THAT was an adventure...lol.
Dad remained his wonderful self..optomistic and playful as ever, while mom was having a spaz attack and some of us kids ending up cranky, while others having the time of our lives...(mind u..there were 10 of us kids in that maxi van...hours offroad in the middle of summer in Nevada desert..hot.dry..no a/c..lol).

And here I am, some 35+ years later talking about it with a smile on my face.
It's the chaotic unexpectancies that spice the memories with lasting flavor, LK. I envy that you are having them.
Makes me wanna get on out there and screw something up myself....lol.

Thanks for the memory charge.

Shangrala
Thanks for this!

I have to laugh at your car trips Shangrala.....sounds like my Dad & luckily, I took after him except that I was the off road specialist.

I remember one vacation when I was really young....probably before the age of 10, I (an only child) & my parents drove up to San Francisco. We checked out some maps & some restaurants. My Dad & I found this geyser.....somewhere down this road that on the map was a pretty good sized road. We decided we wanted to go.....my Mom was trapped along for the ride. We drove & we drove.....& we drove.....& we drove some more....& we drove even some more. We finally came to the end of the road......there was a little sign there that said it was another 5 mile hike to get to the geyser......

Well the only geyser we saw that night was my Mother......she blew up just like a geyser. By the time we had arrived at the sign, it was almost dark. She had her mouth set on this wonderful restaurant.....so we turned around & we drove & we drove.....& we drove.....& we drove some more....& we drove even some more until we finally got back into San Francisco to the restaurant where my Mother wanted to eat......we went inside & they told us they were closing in a little while.....my mother the geyser was spouting steam the rest of the night. We decided on this other restaurant that really great hamburgers (actually that was great for me).....that made my mother even more angry. To her dying day, she never forgor about that drive to find the geyer. To my Dad's dieing day, whe never forgot about ltelline him aout the wild goose geyser chasing day he caused us to have.

No what I took away from that day is the love to explore.....when I got my first 4x4 watch out.....one fun trip to Sedona Arizona....my jeep seemed to have a mind of it's own....after all, it was the 4x4. Every little dirt trail off the side of the road had to be explored. I think the best was the fire trail however. It ended up being a 1 car road (not as bad as your cattle trail....but pretty bad). It had actually just snowed which is why we weren't doing another activity (hot air ballonning). The mud was thick & it was that red gewey stuff. The trail was winding around the mountain & there was a huge drop off. The mud got stuck on the tires so thick that there was no traction & the jeep just started sliding in the direction of off the road.....& there was no room to turn around like I was desperately wanting to do. Ever get to that place where you can't go forward & you can't go back???? Hate that stuck feeling. Thought I was going to be stuck there permanently or at least until everything started to dry out....but then I figured I would so stuck so deep in dried mud there would be no way out either.

Luckily, beyond my own power or ability, I was able to get my jeep inched around.....think we can call it a 1000 point turn rather than the normal 3 point turn around.....& got headed down the fire road. The mud kept accumulating on the tires & had to knock it off many time before I ever got back down to normal road. It was getting packed in the wheel wells along with on the tires.....

Well, I am here, so I made if off the mountain. We left most of the mud where it came from.....getting through that adventure & onto other off road adventures there, but I promised myself....no more side of the mountain thrills.....the rest were flat land exploration.

All my autos have this mind of their own....when they see an interesing looking trail like road off of where we are driving.....they just naturaly turn onto them & start checking out where they go to. Good thing my autos have the same sense of adventure that I do.....they do take me to some interesting places.

When I am hiking it's the same way....only so much slower......I usually blame my shoes for having a mind of their own.....they always want to see what is on the other side of the hill or around the next bend or what's off on the side trail. Never satisfied with where they are, but always exploring.

It is fun to go back in memory & re-experience he old experiences again
Oh the joys or exploration,
Eskie
