Hi, I've been on Klonopin for about twenty years. Four months ago I began titrating my dose down, with the goal of eventually coming off the Klonopin. I started at 2mg./day and am now at 1 1/4 mg./day. Long, long way to go yet.

I'm wondering if anyone else here is currently going through benzo withdrawal?

My psychiatrist wants me off Klonopin. I also am taking 2mg./day. I was told the process would take six months for me. I assume the time frame may vary depending on the individual.

My guess is the longer you've been on it, the longer it takes to get off it.

I'm hoping I can take a full 18 months to come off the Klonopin. Maybe even two years. I'd love to go so much faster, but really scared of benzo withdrawal syndrome.

Two years seems like an awfully long time to me. But then again, I'm a minority when it comes to benzos and can go on and off them like it's nothing..take it nightly for months and then just stop one night with no issues...or what I just did, cut my dose in half and I wouldn't know if I hadn't been the one to do it.

Actually, 18 months-2 years is recommended by many experts on benzo withdrawal syndrome (for people who have been on a benzo for a long time). I hope I make it in 18 months, but I'll do whatever it takes. I mean, I've taken Klonopin every single day for about 20 years - with the exception of one awful, awful year when I tried to come off it too fast & wound up terribly sick/disabled.

Hmm...interesting. Like I said though, it seems like a really long time. I wasn't discounting your plan or anything like that.

And also, you have to remember that I can take klonopin for months daily and then stop cold turkey. I think I've only ever tapered down once other than right now. It's usually more of a "I'm good, I don't need my klonopin anymore so I'm not taking it after today" thing.
