Has anyone gone off tegretol? How did you do it? How did it go? Just curious. I'm weaning myself off, from here on out it'll be by half and only taken in the morning. Starting tuesday I take 1 200 mg tegretol in the morning for two weeks, then 1/2 200 mg tegretol in the morning, then 1/4 200 mg tegretol in the morning, and then if I can 1/8 200mg tegretol, then off. Each step for two weeks. I'm thinking that should be pretty safe. It's not cold turkey at least. So, if anyone has done it please give me your experience. Trying to give my NP a chance to be there to help but she may not so I just need to be ready.

I'm wondering why you want to get off of it. I've been on it for over 5 years and have been episode free. I know it has its risks, though.

Not episode free for one thing. No med or combination of meds has caused me to be episode free for more than 8 months or so. It's just not a long enough period of time episode free given the considerable short and/or long term risks. Not gonna continue to put my physical health in harms way for the minimal positive results psychotropic medications. Not worth it..at all...to me. Please stick to the questions at hand.

Sorry. I was just wondering if you knew something I didn't. Good luck in finding something that works well for you.

No need to apologize. Sorry if my post came off harsh but in other forums I feel like I have to constantly defend my decision to go off and was feeling the same way this time.

Well, NP agreed to take me off tegretol...I don't have to do it by myself. I'm gonna do it slower. It'll equate to being off for a week when I next see her. I'm gonna do one for a week, 1/2 for a week, 1/4 for a week, then off. Instead of 1 for a week then off, just not comfortable for coming off that quick. So, that'll be good. We'll see how it goes.

She also agreed that if I'm doing well she'll reduce the other but isn't comfortable taking me off but if I can get it on the low end than that will be good enough.

Well, dont have medicaid...cant afford latuda. Decreasing both. The latuda I have will last a while if I get it down to a smaller dose so I wont be off that till early July. Tegretol I will be totally off on April 7. The saga continues. No more NP. I'm done fighting for what I think is right for me. And I would stay on Latuda but cant afford it and done fighting for what a dr/NP thinks I need when I dont even want it anymore. I'M DONE! DONE! DONE!

T wants me to write a letter to NP explaining everything...the expanded reduction off tegretol, the reduction in Latuda, losing medicaid, reducing T to once every 4 weeks, and needing to reduce NP to once quarterly. See what she says. Ugh! I'm gonna do it but she not getting it until I'm down to 20mg Latuda which is next week.

Sorry NP isn't with your program. I am discontinuing Abilify; pdoc says to come off it quickly but I am scared to do that. I am glad you are tapering.

Well, I have a letter for her afterall. Afraid of what her reaction will be. Worst case scenario she closes my case. Best case scenario she agrees to 20mg latuda. That would be the most I could do at least for a while especially when the reductions have me feeling better. So we'll see.

Doubt it but if not I'll just taper off the Latuda myself. Im not going back up to even 40 unless absolutely necessary and it is NOT right now. I wouldn't be off the Latuda for 90-100 days after getting off tegretol. We'll see. I explaIned everything in my letter. I will send it this week sometime. It'll give her 5-10 business days to respond. Her response will determine if I go see her and continue at 20 or call, cancel, and taper off.

Well today is my LAST day taking Tegretol. I'm excited to see how this goes.
Today is the day I'm sending my letter to NP and waiting for her response. We shall see.

Fourth day off Tegretol and doing quite well, no real withdrawl symptoms. Also last night was my first night at 15mg of Latuda. Doing good so far. I feel so much clearer headed and not so slowed down physically. Haven't heard back from the NP's office yet. We'll see.
