Hello all,

My psychiatrist is taking me off all anti-psychotic meds because my problems stemmed from abusing alcohol and I'm now sober. I got off Olanzapine and Seroquel fairly easy because I was able to cut the smallest dose tabs into quarters.

The Geodon is another matter entirely. I've been on it for a year at 160mg daily and the doctor cut out 80mg right away. For three weeks I've been experiencing: headaches, jaw muscle pain and cramping in my stomach. The doctor says to wait until I stabilize before I drop to 60mg. Anyone out there experienced this? I'm treating the symptoms with hot baths, herbal tea and an occasional Tylenol but am open to suggestions.

Thanks much.

I'm on geadon and I know when I forget to take it I feel very nervous. It's interesting to know someone can be taken off of anti psychotic medicines. I hope you can function right without it. I'm sure your very strong if you quit using alcohol. Good luck

Thank you for responding dwfieldjr. You're right, I shouldn't lose sight that I quit drinking.

I've been told that magnesium is helpful in minimizing withdrawal symptoms

It's just over two months since my last post and I'm doing much better with the withdrawal from Geodon. I just dropped down to 40mg daily and with the exception of the first day after the drop I've been fine. Some anxiety but not too bad.

Figure I'll be done with this med within the month.
Thanks for this!

That's great to hear meditating man. I'm glad it's not as bad as the first time I asked my doctor to keep me at 40mg a day and he did. Not sure I want to be taken off of this or not. Glad to hear it's going well for you.

Yeah, 40mg is a fairly low dose for Geodon and if it's working you then that's great. All the best.

I'm glad you are feeling better. I take 60 mg of Geodon and it helps me. Take care.

Thanks all. I just dropped to 20mg a couple days ago. Insomnia the first night but that seems to have resolved. Scaling down on my coffee to avoid anxiety but otherwise things are okay. Hope to be med free end of September.

I tried magnesium when I tapered down on gabapentin and it helped a lot.

I am still on it and either it isn't helping with my geodon taper or it is and it would be way worse than it already is. Thanks for bringing it up.

I have Magnesium on standby right now. If I feel things are getting out of control I'll give them a try.

I have now discontinued Geodon after taking 10mg (opening up the capsule and dumping half out) for about a month. Hope the withdrawal doesn't last too long.

Thank you all for your support during my Geodon (Zeldox) taper. As of Nov 23rd 2016, I have been completely off Geodon (and all other meds). Now, almost two months after discontinuing, I am bothered only with tense jaw muscles on occasion. This discomfort is my warning sign of heightened anxiety.

Wishing you all well!

Hi, So is the pain from Geodon withdrawal, or is it from anxiety?

My take on it is that my discontinuation from Geodon has left me more sensitive to anxiety. In time I feel that my jaw muscle tension/pain will be less bothersome or disappear completely (I hope).
