To make a very long story short, my new psychiatrist thinks I don't have ADHD and won't refill my Adderall. I'm trying to find a new doctor but in the meantime she hasn't given me any help on how to stop taking it.

It is my understanding that quitting cold turkey is really bad. I already ran out and tried not taking it but the withdrawals are too severe. Luckily I have a few left from a really old prescription that I broke in half but I'm scared I will run out before I stop having withdrawals.

I tried asking to see another doctor at the same office but they won't let me. What do I do? This is making me so anxious and depressed and I don't know how to survive without this medication that has helped me for years or how to get off of it. I'm really terrified and I feel like she is being negligent.

Dear Janel2008,

I am so very, very sorry you are suffering such distress and grief! I wish I had some really good advice, but sadly I am at a loss. Do you think you might want to see another psychiatrist in another office for guidance and help? So sorry if that is not helpful. I hope many people will see your post and will have really helpful ideas for you. It is so heartbreaking that you are suffering!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Thank you for your response. Maybe I can ask my pharmacist about it. I don't know. I'm in the process of getting a referral for another psychiatrist but unfortunately it's a lengthy process and I'm stuck with her in the meantime. I thought about calling my old psychiatrist but don't know if he can do anything since I haven't seen him for several months.

Make sure you talk to your therapist and get counseling, this can be most helpful when getting off drugs.
