Well it is not a matter of being ready or not for me, but all I had to decide was whether it is worth telling or not. Now that I have made up my mind that what must be old, must be told. Here it goes...
First of all, a little background of the story. I live with my father, mother and two sisters at a rented house where we occupy the ground floor while first and second floor are dwelled by the landlord and his wife. We have been living there for more than 5 years now. We have good understanding among us, we are good neighbours as well except for one thing... Cats!!! I love animals but since I have always lived in rented places, so I never had a chance to keep one as a pet. In this place, my mother started feeding a stray cat with milk occasionally. Soon my younger sister started to take care of her and she started to live with us. Then one day our landlady said that she does not like cats and we must stop feeding the cat. We did not and matter was set aside for a while. Then in the winter of 2005, our cat brought along a kitten of hers. We started feeding it too and became part of our life. Then came the bad day when the kitten went up the stairs had crapped the place. The landlady was outraged. I went up and did the cleaning. Then I tried different things like putting sand pot et cetera but whenever it was cold, the kitten preferred going upstairs and I cleaned the crap. Then she gave us an ultimatum and I had to abandon the kitten. My younger sister and I took the kitten with us. I had found a place where there were no dogs; it was near a street restaurant, so that the kitten could eat from the leftover chicken and meat. The mother cat was very upset and did not eat for a couple of days. Then came the summer of 2006 and the mother cat gave birth to 3 kittens at some other place. She ate at our house but went to her kittens. Then one day she brought along the three kittens at our house. I tried to put tem back but she brought them in again. Her persistence won my heart and I opened the annexed store room for her and the kittens. I tried to hide the kittens from the landlady but she knew it somehow. This time instead of threatening me, she got the mother cat kidnapped by someone and the mother cat was thrown away, I do not know where… I took the responsibility of the three, and they were very little then. I fed them myself, mashed chicken for them, and sometimes gave them bread in milk. Then my mother suggested me to transfer the kittens to an open place near our home with enough shelter for the kittens. This open place was held by servants of some other family and they did not mind the kittens. My younger sister and I daily went to that place twice to feed them. In the morning, we gave them bread and milk and in the evening mashed chicken pieces. My exams were approaching and I got busier and busier, so my mother told me to abandon these three too. The servants’ patience with the kittens was also evaporating since they were grown up now and they sometimes spoiled their meals and littered their clothes. So once again, we had to do something unwillingly. This time I looked for a university staff colony, where there are no dogs and took them with me on the car, with my father driving. My sister refused to accompany me this time, and I left them. Now we vowed that we will not keep any cat as we do not have place and we cannot bear the grunting of the landlady. But my mother started to feed another stray cat. She brought along three kittens. These kittens were great. They were very quite and did not burden us at all, they used to eat whatever we gave them, and we all got very used to them. Then started the winters this year and one of them started going up stairs and did the crap. The landlady was furious. I myself cleaned and washed the place once but this time her husband who is quite a gentleman said to us to throw them away. I did not have the courage to do this, so my mother asked a neighbour who caught them in a sack and dropped them off. It happened on Sunday, the 8th of November, 2009. I was out to Sunday market shopping for the week buying groceries and when I returned my mother told me that she had got them away by the neighbour. I did not say a word and I took the motor bike and went outside. I wore my helmet although I did not need it, closed its visor and cried and cried. I just prayed for their well being. I could not talk about it in my home as it made restless the rest of the family as well. They all were very much attached to the kittens. So I thought of sharing it with you people. I do not blame any one for the losses, but still it is a bit painful. I just thank you all for listening. Regards

It took me sometime till I understood that was better to do not start taking care of homeless cats or dogs or other pets. I stopped when I saw the third one dying and again, not because of my fault. (the third one that died was a rabbit, before... a cat and a dog) I know that is painful to get attached and then to have to part away.
![]() Here, in Canada, there are rarely homeless pets and you can find a good place for them if you can't take care of them anymore. Even for wounded birds.
