A famous hockey player Bob Probert died this afternoon. My daughter is friends with his 2nd oldest daughter. He has 4 children under the age of 15 - 2 daughters and a set of twins(boy and girl). He was on his boat with his children, friend and MIL when he collapsed from what they think was a heart attack - he was only 45 yrs old. I'm so stunned and I'm sure so many other people in my community are shocked as well. Please pray for his wife and children.

Thank you TrinityDancer - I was reading the paper yesterday and it said his father died of a massive heart attack when he was 41 - so maybe this was a genetic weakness. The saddest thing is all 4 children were on the boat and watching while his father in law tried to revive him. The MIL drove the boat to shore and an ambulance was waiting at the docks. He was an excellent father and a very generous man. Once he gave anonymously, a large amount of money for a boy in Florida to have an expensive medical procedure. He was also very down to earth.

Yes he was known to be one of the toughest on the ice but so reserved off the ice. It's sad to known one of the toughest on ice, couldn't beat this and live beyond 45. Today we're going for the visitation and it's going to be hard seeing his wife and children. Tomorrow's the burial and I bet the car procession will be miles long. Thank you for your kind thoughts TrinityDancer.

I just got back from the visitation an hour ago. We waited in line for 11/2 hrs - I've never seen such a line up of people. The visitation was beautiful and sentimental - flowers every where and 3 screens with a running slide show of pictures. The inside top part of the coffin had pictures of him and his family and 4 little bouquets of flowers with the name of each child. I could already see his wife's face looks drawn out and stressed.

we hope that you made it through OK-you are very brave to have done that as we could not go anywhere near a situation like that. it sounds like it was wonderfully done. we noticed that our teams GM,steve yzerman was there too.

I decided to go to the service yesterday with my 2 daughters. It was sad, but I have to say it was the coolest service I've ever been to. Who would think a funeral service could be cool. He was a man who enjoyed life with cars, boats and motorcycles. His family focused on the service being a celebration of his life. The church is modern minded so there was a stage with 3 huge screens so everyone could see. There was a band that played modern Christian music and there's was even an electric guitar lol. A midst the celebration there were plenty of tears. His 2 oldest daughters were even brave enough to say a speech. His oldest who'll be 16 this year spoke about fun times but then her speech talked about "how he'll never teach her how to drive, see her graduate or walk her down the isle" - everyone was crying when she said that.
I feel it was very generous of his family to make the funeral service open to the public. They could have specified a private funeral. Steve Yzerman said Bob never turned an autograph down, even if it meant standing for 2 hours. He said he was devoted to his fans that way, because when he was a boy some sports guy walked away, when he wanted an autograph. They out-fitted a motor cycle with a side carrier and strapped the motor cycle on the side. He was definitely a cool dude and he went out 'in style' for sure. Thanks TrinityDancer ![]()

we went onto NHL.com earlier and saw a video of the funeral procession and they also had the eulogy his daughter gave,it was very touching and for us who do not ever cry it even made us feel something. and for him to always have stopped to sign autographs is beyond cool! we know for core and those of us who love hockey, there have been many, many times they have not stopped and thats just not nice. we are glad you got to share and we are always more than happy to listen.

Thanks again Trinity and no need to apologize at all.
I just realized I made a big typo mistake lol. I meant to say the outfitted a motor cycle with a side carrier and strapped the coffin on to it - not "They out-fitted a motor cycle with a side carrier and strapped the motor cycle on the side." Silly me.
