I live in a city that's lucky enough to have 30 & over & 40 & over baseball leagues. Bob Kramer was a baseball encyclopedia, a stand up comedian & a humanitarian (though he would never admit it).

Bob was in his 60's & served in Vietnam. He had half of his heel blown up in combat & still carried shrapnel from the grenade that caused the damage, but still managed to play ball for several decades. Despite his distinguished service in Vietnam, he was no flag waving patriot. In fact, he was a pacifist. I don't think this is altogether unusual for folks who were truly out in the bush in 1968-69.

Perhaps because he survived so much, I never considered the possibility he might die; not Bob Kramer! Not with his wit & laid back attitude. He was raised Jewish, but grew his silver beard out year round so he could play Santa in December. Another thing he did for kids was coached little league teams, despite the fact he had no kids of his own...He just loved the game & wanted to pass that on to another generation.

If anyone bothers to read this give a thought to Bob. I wish you all had the pleasure of knowing him.
