I have a memorial to go to this afternoon. It's a very sad situation. A young man that works for me has died. Right now they are not sure whether it was at his own hand, an accident or if his identical twin brother killed him.

I know that this is not about me, it's about closure for our co-workers. We, his employers, were the only one that noticed that this young man (20, the same age as my identical twins) was missing. I cannot tell you how sad that makes me.

If he did take his own life, the isolation he must have felt is profound. He obviously did not have a support system. Our GM was the only one that took action. When he did not show up the first day, she called his brother who gave a ridiculous story. The second day she contacted the boy's parents (divorced) both who had no idea what was going on, but were both too busy pointing the finger at the other to raise alarm. He was hired through the Goodwill program (the boy was hearing impaired and we hired him through them) to find out if his representative knew anything. The police were unwilling to do anything at this point which was frustrating. They assumed he was out partying somewhere even though the boy's social circle was virtually non-existent. The only two people that he socialized with were his twin and twin's best friend. The best friend had no idea where he was and the twin's story changed by the minute.

This whole situation has been horrible on so many levels. We live in a very small town and yet not once was the boy's picture on the news or in the paper. The woman that accidentally found the body had no idea that anyone had been missing even though it had been over two weeks at this point. The "investigation" such as it was is shameful! He was found in a place he was known to hang out at, that supposedly had already been checked. Had they run this better, the boy would have been found almost immediately! The Sheriff's Department said that the local police checked that area, the police chief is now saying that the twin and his best friend had already checked that area. Really? The guy that changes his story every five minutes, that's who you're going to depend on?

(((AAAAA and Coworkers))) - very sorry to hear this young man died. I agree it sounds suspicious and the fact his twin changes his story is concerning. I sure hope the police will give this a full investigation and hope someone in this mans life will ask questions. If this was their son they would want answers. I hope they won't be quick to accept it was a suicide.

I suspect that it will be dismissed as a suicide, although there are many unanswered questions.

1) Why didn't the twin report the brother missing?
2) Why was the twin's behavior so strange?
3) Why did he make up these outlandish stories?
4) The boy was found hung, but not hanging
5) Why did he say he had searched that area, and yet a woman walking her dog stumbled upon it accidentally?

I'm sure that we'll never get all of the answers. The twin's behavior can be... explained if he knew what his brother was contemplating but did nothing about it.

If you Google "County with most unsolved murders" you will not come up with a county that includes LA or Chicago, the top answer is our rural county.

I am so sorry for the loss of this young man. It certainly sounds like the authorities mishandled the situation. I send my condolences to you and your coworkers and hope time will help everyone adjust to this. If his twin did it, what a horrible circumstance and I hope the police deal with him in an appropriate manner.

Hugs,

Jan
