Sunday I had lunch with a friend from another town not far away. Don't see her often. She never calls. I saw her in church. "Let's go for lunch", I say.

Well, we were talking about, I don't know, yeah, religion OK, but it was going fine and then something set ME off. Usually I can tolerate cafeteria catholics (catholics who pick and choose what they want to believe or jump around from church to church, different denominations) but I got mad. As a believing, practising catholic I'm having a hard time finding any real ones in this new burg I live in. They go to church, but don't believe in the church's teachings and, GOD, I got so fed up. She's the second person like that. Another fellow I met before Christmas is catholic, but doesn't go to church because, well, he doesn't like the priest and he does not believe in confession. Well, what the hell is that? Where else am I going to be able to talk to people of my own faith, if not from my own church. Gah!

I miss my friends from Ontario. With them I could talk. Now I may have to go into the big city an hour away to find what I need. It's so difficult. OK, nobody died, but my former life did, you know?

I can certainly understand how that would make you sad. maybe time to find a church you do agree with.

Honestly, there isn't anything he can do. It's something we all have to put up with. Thanks though.

In answer to Bebop:

Oh, I already have the church "I" want. It's other people who can't make up "their" minds whether to stay Catholic and be faithful or keep flitting around to other denominations. Which makes it difficult for catholics who need support from real catholics within their own church.

Then go to your priest for the support you need. Obviously, these other people haven't found what they are looking for, like you have. They have as much right to look for what they believe in as you did when you found the church that fits your needs... don't you think?
