There have been several deaths in my family over the past few years, mostly animals but also people. Today, my family's brown tabby, Beavis, passed away. I found him when I went to give food and water to him and his "brother," Tigger. He was at least thirteen years old and hadn't shown any symptoms of illness, so I assume it was a heart attack or natural causes.

I just feel numb right now. I spent most of the day keeping Tigger company, caring for my other animals (two dogs and another cat) and crying. I lost my bird, Kirby, last July, and my German Shepherd, Sandy, in December of 2004, so I thought I wouldn't have to go through this heartbreak again for a long, long time...

I've been grieving Sandy really badly lately and now I have another animal angel to grieve. It's heartbreaking.

I know that I'll see them again someday, and it's comforting to think that other people's beloved companions are welcoming my animal friends to the afterlife and taking care of them for me (and that my animals are doing the same for others!).

Thank you so much for your reply. Reading your words put a smile on my face.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I remember when I lost my beloved soul mate, my cat of 13 years, Frisky. She was a beautiful gray and white cat. She passed away underneath the Christmas tree on Christmas Day a few years back. It was awful, not only for me but for my other animals, too. My youngest kitty took her death really hard, too. He just sat next to her crying for hours. And in the same day, he started spraying and would cry all day long, even if there was somebody there. I knew he was just as heartbroken as I was.

Hi Always,

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved Beavis. Pets are wonderful friends, and it is really hard, when we lose them.

Hugs,

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful and compassionate responses. I've loved and lost so many animals, and, as much as it hurts to lose them, I am so grateful to have had the time I did. Beavis will always have a special place in my heart.

My cat Mighty Mouse, crossed the Rainbow Bridge just before Xmas, she was born On Xmas Eve 1990. I'm still crying. I have owned her mother since i found her in the wild, in 1989. I also am gratefuul for the beautiful companionship.

i didn't tell you that Bro, Newman-Marcus, Grey, Sally, Kemlin, Sir Oliver, Cornelius Bros and Sister Rose, Wombat, Augusta (we thought she was a boy at first and named her Gus) are all there with Beavis and Sandy. Dog wise, Gay, Rattler, TippyI, GypsyRoseLee, Pixie, Phoebe, Patti La Belle, Xowie, Doc, Boss,Carly Simon, Cassie and Tooter are all snuggled up with Sandy. Believe me, your pets are surrounded with the coolest and most loving friends that they could ever ask for. And just think of how many I don't know about that are there. All waiting for us. I look forward to the day that I see "Smutty", my greyhound, come running towards me, health fully restored and that silly greyt grin on his face and a stick of stolen butter sticking out of the corner of his mouth! xoxoxo pat

It's good to know that Beavis and Sandy are surrounded by so many other wonderful animals. They will never be lonely or in pain for a second.

I have had many other animal friends of all kinds who crossed the Bridge before Beavis, Sandy, and Kirby, and I know all of them are taking care of each other until I see them again.

Oh, {{{{{Always}}}}}} I'm sitting here crying knowing the heartache you're feeling. Two of my furbabies crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently - My precious friend who went through all of life's trials with me (thus far) - my 20-year-old Morris. I had to take him to be put to sleep and that was so very hard. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

When Morris was 14, I adopted Kali who was 3 at the time so I wouldn't be "petless" when I lost Morris. Six months before Morris died, similar to your Sandy, I found Kali curled up on the couch having crossed over the bridge. She never showed any signs of illness or distress. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

Sandy has quite a welcoming committe awaiting - Morris (who was such a little gentleman) is so sweet. Kali was a little more...ummmm...spirited, but she loves to romp with other cats.

Have you been to the Rainbow Bridge website chatroom? I spent about a week in there when I lost Morris.

One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

If you need to talk, please PM me. I love animals!!

I'm so sorry for your losses, Azalysa. Morris and Kali sounded like wonderful cats, and I know they were loved and loved you very much. It makes me smile (and get teary-eyed, in a good way) to think that Sandy, Beavis, and all my dearly missed animals are making new friends.

I've been to that chat room twice now--the first time was a few weeks ago because of Sandy, and the second time was on the day Beavis passed away. I plan to go there again soon. Everyone was so helpful and compassionate.

And, yes, I will probably PM you soon. I've been an animal person since I was a little girl, and I always love talking to other people who feel the same way about animals. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

Hi (((((AlwaysSearching))))))

Many of my pets have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, & also one of my children, a baby. We have had 2 NDEs & we saw them waiting on the other side. They were just past that gate, at the end of the tunnel, we know they are waiting for us One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

The joy will be immense, when we are reunited with these members of our family - human & animal alike - & we will go on together to whatever awaits us.

Zorah, your words are very reassuring and comforting. My mother told me (just a few nights ago, actually) that she'd heard of people going through NDEs and seeing their animals waiting for them, but it's different to hear it from someone who's actually been through that before. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I've had so many animals in my life, there will almost be a whole zoo waiting for me! One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

Another {{HUG}} for you, AlwaysSearching. By now, I'm SURE Morris has introduced himself to your babies. Kali...she takes a little longer but is lots of fun when she gets to know them.

This is interesting I think: a couple of days before Morris died, I had a dream and saw my dogs Chips, Preppie and Jude. These pets all died from complications of old age. I *also* saw Morris with them. I did *not* see my dog, Sampson or my cat Kali (both found dead before their times). I just knew that Morris would be going soon and I feel I was somehow "prepared" for it.

Still broke my heart as I know your's is too. *HUGS*

Warmly,

Aza

Wow, I've never had any sort of premonition dream like that, but I have had some dreams with Sandy in them after she died.

One happened about two weeks later and, in it, she ran to me, wagging her tail and licking my face--but, in the dream, I knew she was dead! I believe it was her way of saying, "It's okay, Mom. I'm not sick anymore (she had cancer) and I'm at peace." That was very comforting and touching.

My feline angel, Sylvester, is playing with Beavis right now, I'd say....Beavis is at peace too, no longer suffering, and has plenty of friends who show him around the happy, peaceful place...Beavis has probably met a few of my land hermit crabs too, especially my Ecuadoran named Donald.

Kim,

I wasn't quite sure when I read your post if you lost Sylvester recently or not. Whenever it was my heart goes out to you. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.

Always,

How are you, hon? It's been since September that I lost Morris and I still cry at least every other day.

I completely understand... it took me a lonnnnnnng time to stop crying every day when my cat Large Marge passed. It was painful to see other cats for many months afterwards. Took me two years before I was emotionally ready to adopt my current ones.

Hugs,
LMo

I'm sure Sylvester and Beavis have become great friends by now. One of my cats crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. Beavis has never met a hermit crab before, so he must have found that interesting!

LMo, I understand about it being painful to see other cats. I cry when I see other people walking their German Shepherds, because they remind me so much of my dog, Sandy--and I also feel jealous that those people still have their dogs and I don't. Even if I see one on TV, I have to turn the channel or I get really upset.
