I was talking with my mom yesterday and she told me some stuff about my Grandma that has me concerned about her. I thought I would share it with you and see what you think and if I should mention it to my Aunt (one of her daughters) to see if she could go with my Grandma to the doctor and tell the doctor what is going on because my Grandma would never tell the doctor that it is going on.

Tuesday my mom had invited my Grandma over for supper and when my Grandma asked what they would be having mom told her cheeseburgers, new potatoes and the fixings for the cheeseburgers. My Grandma asked my mom what a cheeseburger was. My mom said you know a cheeseburger a hamburger with cheese on it. Grandma asked again no what is a cheeseburger? She couldn't understand the concept of a cheeseburger.
On Monday mom said that she had gone to lunch with Grandma after they had gone to workout together at the fitness center and when they got back to the house she walked in and said what is that smell something smells hot it smells like burnt toast. My Grandma says oh no I must have left the coffee pot on and went in the kitchen to check and the coffee pot wasn't on and my mom said no it smells like burnt toast. So Grandma went over to the stove and checked and the stove was still on with a roll still in the oven just charring away. Mom said it was so black it looked like a charcoal briquet.
Grandma has company this weekend and my mom called her on Wednesday to let her know what the vet said about my mom's cat Chessie and Grandma said the company got there just fine. They had gone out to lunch and for supper they were just going to snack but then lowered her voice and said that she hadn't gone to the store and that she didn't have anything for them to snack on. My mom said well I have some lunch meat, bread and sandwich things I can bring them over would you like that? My Grandma said well don't you need them? My mom said no we are having leftovers for supper and we are leaving tomorrow afternoon for Nebraska so no we don't need it. Grandma said well ok then but don't you need it?

I am worried that her mind is starting to fail her. She is 83 and is in relatively good health. She just had her eyes operated on for cataracts and had her toenails taken off because she gets ingrown toenails very easily. I am worried she either has the beginning stages of alzheimers or is having small strokes but if you say anything to her about her forgetting things she says I'm 83 what do you expect?

Do I say anything to my aunt about her?

Jan

I think it is ok to mention it to her daughter but hon I suspect if she is this bad then everyone probably knows by now. I feel for you though. my dad is having bad comprehension problems too. it is so sad to watch those we love to go downhill.

I spoke with my Aunt about her tonight. I told her about the incidents I had mentioned in my post and she said she would mention it to my other Aunt (her sister). She also said that when she talks to Grandma she will pay attention more to the conversation to listen to Grandma's words to see if they follow the train of thought or just are all over the place.

She also said that she has noticed lately that Grandma tells her the same thing over and over. But that she has other much younger friends that do the same thing.

She thanked me for being concerned and that she would watch Grandma more carefully.

((((Jbug))))

There are better medications today that helpv with the neurological issues we face when aging.

I hope that your dear Grandma goes to the DR. soon and has a thorough check-up.

Quality of life is ever so important, at least to me, and I hope your Grandma has an exceptional quality of life as she ages from here on.

Peace and Love,
Night
