I've just been recommended acupuncture by my physio - I have an over-use injury of some sort (possibly tendinitis) on my left hand from playing the violin, and unfortunately it's not been responding to treatment so far. I'm hoping this'll help - I've been having problems with my hand since last August, and have barely played the violin since the end of April.

Has anyone here ever had acupuncture? Did it help? And does it hurt?

Hi Rio,
I just had it once and no it doesn't hurt at all, because the needles are extremely fine and they put them in fast. Make sure the place is reputable and of course use fresh needles(dah). I used to have alot of problems with TMJ and my physiotherapists recommended this battery operated one where the end looks like a pen and when you push the button it stings a little. Amazingly it really helped with the muscle spasms in my jaw. I've also used it for headaches and it works. So I think you should give it a try - it an old technique that's been around for a long time so there must be some merit in it - right? Good luck.

Thanks, lynn. That's a relief - physio said it didn't hurt, but considering how much regular physio stuff hurts I wasn't sure if I should believe him. Pretty sure it's reputable, it's related to the place that I go to for regular physio and I like it there. What's TMJ? That's good it helped.

Hi again Rio,
TMJ stands for 'tempo mandibular joint' dysfunction or simply put - pain in the jaw / muscles. I remember reading in one of my natural healing books that B vitamins are good for pain in the hands, particularly Carpal tunnel Syndrome. Good luck with the acupuncture and I hope it helps.

Hi Rio,

Acupuncture is wonderful!

It can address many things at once also, btw.

Pain, moving your system along quicker, or slowing it down, if needed, is available as well as pain relief, and other areas we can have treated without any pain or side effects!

Best to you ~ and let us know what you think about how it went too, okay...

Peace and recovery,
Night
xoxo

I tried acupuncture several times for my migraines.....sadly, it did nothing to relieve the pain. I thought it was because the pain was so bad at the time I went in the first time that is didn't work.

The next time, I had a pain shot in the ER first, so the pain was already started to have relief......that didn't help either......for some reason, my migraines were resistant to any help of any kind except for the the pain medication I have been on for the last 6 years....as least I don't feel the pain....sometimes I get the wired symptoms but not the pain....strange sensation, but what a relief to not have the pain.

HOpe you find relief from the acupuncture. I wasn't very relaxed while going through it.....somehow, the thought of the needles stressed me out, but there was really nothing to is in reality.

Good luck,
Debbie

Thanks, everyone - sorry for the late reply, I was on holiday. Had my acupuncture session today - it didn't hurt at the time, although it felt like one of the needles was left in for a while afterwards, and I felt a bit nauseous on the way home...will try and remember to mention that next time. Physio was nice, though (different one - old one's moved to Australia), and I've been given a wrist support for a bit as well - makes typing a bit tricky, don't think I'll be able to come on here much until I get it off! But hopefully it'll help.

Hi Rio,

Does your splint push your hand up like the ones that are used for carpal tunnel syndrome? If so you should get very good results from it. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, January. It does a bit, physio said it was to keep it in the wrist's "neutral position". All I know is that it means I can only type with a couple of fingers on my left hand, because the support keeps them all close together...it does seem to be helping, though! I can notice a difference when I don't wear it. I hope it gets better soon as well, at this rate it doesn't look like I'll be able to go back to orchestra next year, which sucks.

i just had acupuncture today for the first time in order to treat my chronic back and neck pain and headaches. the actual procedure did not hurt and i found it to be relaxing but, now (several hours later) my back is really sore. i'm not sure if this is what's supposed to happen. i know when i get massages the same thing happens but, after a day or so i feel really good. i go back in for acupuncture again on friday and twice a week from here on out. i'm hoping it works. has anyone experienced the same thing?? i know nothing happens overnight...
