I've got the symptoms of both a cold AND the flu, and yet not all of either... and it could be a sinus infection, or a lung infection, or pneumonia...

I hate being sick... and it all just started out on Friday/Saturday as a sore throat and has ballooned into absolute HELL.

Yeah, I'm going to the doc's tomorrow since the last time it hurt to breathe it turned out to be a lung infection verging on pneumonia.

I feel pathetic and icky and sore and cranky and GRRR I HATE BEING SICK.

And I took 11 pills this morning in order to get better, sooner rather than later... and only *three* of them were prescription, two of those which are my regular daily meds...

On the upside, according to what I know of the H1N1, this is *not* that - I'm still quite able to function. Although knowing my luck, I'll probably wind up with that too... bloody immune system hates me!! And I have a disability, not a degenerative disease and it doesn't cause deficiencies to your immune system -- I'm just the type of person who doesn't get sick until she's HORRIBLY FREAKING SICK.

I'm sorry you are feeling so badly. I used to have very similar symptoms from September to mid-winter, from March 'til July. Then I got allergy testing, started on allergy shots, and then moved on to allergy drops. It takes a few months for allergy shots to really kick in, but if you continue with them faithfully, plus take your annual flue shots, "cold/flue" symptoms can become a thing of the past. What was once a demon illness that plagued me most of the year around is now . . .gone [knock wood, of course]. It's allergy season. Allergies produce histamine, which cause all the cold symptoms, like congestion, drippy nose and sore throat. This, in turn, becomes infected sinuses, bronchitis, pneumonia, and what have you. It really could be that simple. And in this manner, you can, in future, avoid all the courses of antibiotics needed to settle down these respiratory infections, antiobiotics which kill off healthy, as well as unhealthy bacteria, leaving the individual with compromised immunity. Typically, a good brand of Acidophilis [good brands tending to require refrigeration], also found in those plain brands of yogart which so state on the container, will tend to restore a favorable balance of healthy bacteria in the digestive system. Allergy testing is very easy these days. You can literally lie there and go to sleep during the procedure. Once you have the results, serum is made up especially for you, and you can either inject it or put the drops under your tongue. Drops are more convenient. Best of Health Restored to You ~ billieJ

So, according to the doc - I have 100% normal functioning lung capacity, and they sound clear. No temperature and no swollen nodes in my neck, and my ears and throat aren't inflamed. So no lung infection. However, the flu/cold symptoms still persist, so she prescribed me a narcotic cough syrup.

Which I found out ISNT covered by my health plan. So talking to the pharmacist, I just got Tylenol Cold, Flu & Sinus meds and a bottle of Tylenol with Codeine. Less of an overall "buzz", same overall effects for my health and well being.

Oh, and I saved like $40-50.

The hacking stays away if I don't inhale deeply or laugh too much, which is good. But I think I'm getting laryngitis-type symptoms because my voice ranges from high and squeaky to low and almost impossible to hear.

I feel exhausted. NAPTIME!

Christina,

I'm so sorry you're sick - that sucks. But I'm glad it's not pneumonia or anything truly nasty. Do what your grandmother would tell you, stay warm, lots of rest and plenty of liquids. And yes chicken soup really does work. I find when I'm sick drinking lots of gatorade really helps me too.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry you're sick

Be careful when you're taking two medications that contain tylenol, okay? It's easy to accidentally take too much, and that's really dangerous for your liver.

Feel better soon

Christina, when I read your first post I thought "Holy cow we have the same thing!" except I saw my doc yesterday and was told I have a bacterial infection, a viral infection and my asthma is kicking in. I guess we don't have the same thing afterall.

Hope you feel better soon! Being sick sucks!

So, I guess I'm sick again.

Slept for FIFTEEN hours and still feel icky. Mostly dizzy, little bit more icky stuff in my throat and a headache. Not horrible, but not pleasant. I WANT TO BE BETTER ALREADY!!
