This morning I had the above procedure done. That is where they make an incision in the groin area, insert a tube, inject dye, and then take pictures of the valves and stuff all around the heart. It is to check for blockages in the arteries of the heart.

Everything is clear. They discover that the angina I am having is from the valves not relaxing enough when they contract. They put me on nitro pills, 3 per day, for now. I am to see how this works for a week, and call his office if it doesn't succeed. Then followup in 2 months.

It could have been so worse. They could have found blockage and done stints and an angioplast. I am so grateful for what I have. It was a day to give thanks.

I am sooooooooooooooo happy that you have no blockages. They were able to identify the exact cause of your pain. That's wonderful news, PlanningToLive!

My hubby had a heart attack and was admitted and had this procedure done. It showed no blockage also but clearly diagnosed left ventricle cardiomyopathy (thickening of the left wall of the heart) and mitral valve prolapse (the reason for the pain). The valve that closes when blood leaves the heart is faulty and some of the blood slips backwards back into the heart. So, they have treated with some meds.

We are relieved to find that there is no blockage but now know that there is potential for problems down the line.

Those tests really are amazing.

{{{{{{{Starlite, Vickie}}}}}}}} thank you. I have noticed if I take the meds too close together I get a headache. I was up and doing laundry today, taking it easy. Afterwards, stretched out on the couch for my leg to relax.

I am doing pretty well now. Thanks again.

My mom has had quite a few of these with not as great news as you got. She takes nitro when she has angina. She feels the same way when she has to take more then one for her angina. I highly recommend always sitting before taking then and making sure to have water to drink always with you before you take it.

I purchased some Tylenol today. Walgreens' pharmacist told me I could take that for my headaches. Does anyone know if I am this med for the rest of my life? Somehow I think so, what does everyone else believe?

THanks.

Mary Alice,
I had that done a couple years ago. Scary procedure knowing what all could have come of it. I ended up just having Stress induced angina. And I was also put on nitroglycerin pills. Fortunately, since I have reduced the bad stressors in my life, the angina has lessened considerably. I hope that you can do this also, so it might help you more. Best wishes and please do take good care of you!!

Hugs
Beth

Thanks, Beth. I have to follow-up with the doctor in 2 months. I know that now, if I don't take the meds every 7-8 hours, I get chest pains and then I get a headache from taking it late.

I am glad that the nitro is helping you Mary Alice. And do what the doctor tells you . The heart is very special, as an organ and otherwise. We need to know how to do good self care all the way around for it. Know I am thinking of you and I am only a pm away if you need to talk or vent ok?

Hugs,
Beth
