I had it a couple weeks ago. Then it went away for a week. Then it returned in the same spot.
Its white and doesnt have a defined border.
I think that I might accidentally bite on my tongue in that spot occasionally- causing a cut. Then the bacteria get in there and makes it infected.
What should I do?

Is it painful? Are you a smoker? Have you tried rinsing with Listerine. You can also use 10% peroxide BUT you need to dilute it - 3parts water to 1 part 10% peroxide. If it doesn't go away please go to your dentist. Keep your mouth clean between meals. Do you use any steroid inhalers at all?? I hope you feel better soon

Ye, it is painful. No, I am not a smoker. I do not use inhalers. I am not very careful with oral hygiene though.

If you are not a smoker I would ask a doctor what it is or research it on the internet. My personal care assistant has white spots on her tongue but we think it's related to her smoking, because I myself have a coffee colored tongue that the doctor told me is related to smoking. I would just get it checked out maybe, especially if it's easy to see a doctor, otherwise I would research it.

You really should have this checked out. It just might be a canker type sore but you want to rule our oral cancer - I don't think it is. My 8 yr old daughter gets a small raised area on her tongue, that changes and comes and goes. Spicey and sour food aggravates it. Her pediatrician said it's called 'geographical tongue' - I had never heard of that before lol? You learn something new everyday, is so true!! Anyway it isn't painful, just itchy and slightly irritating. Try the antiseptic mouth washes or warm salt and water. I forgot to ask - are there any medications that could be causing this? I hope it goes away soon. Do have it checked out.
