I had a bad cold for a few days starting on Christmas. I still can't breathe good. And I cough alot. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest. I don't hurt but I can't breathe. I think it is bronchitis. So how do you make it go away? I heard it usually goes away on it's own after a few weeks. So how do I take care of it? I've never had it before now.

It's better to have it checked out by the doctor. You might get over it on your own and you may need antibiotics. In bad cases sometimes a person needs to use inhalers. I've had it several times before and it's awful. I have one of those 'magic bags' that have seeds in them. I put it in the microwave and put it on my chest - that helps and so does ginger tea. Make sure you get it checked though TBear and I hope you feel better soon.

I agree about seeing a doctor. It might be pneumonia which is a different treatment. I take an herb for bronchitis (usually) called guarana. Clears your lungs out quickly, it won't hurt if it's pneumonia either. How do you know if it's not the virus going about? That has a cough to it doesn't it?

A lot of fluids and a humidifier may help to break it up so it doesn't feel so heavy.
Expectorant during the day to cough it up and cough suppressant at night so you can sleep may be helpful too.
Get lots of rest, stay out of the cold, eat really good healthy foods.
See your doctor is a great idea.
I hope you feel much better soon, thuderbear

Expert here...you need to go to your doc for antibiotics. If is really bad, they may prescribe steroids as well. They may give you an albuteral treatment right there in the office and an inhailer to take home. This stuff does not go away by itself. If you decide not to treat it, it can turn into something more serious. I hope you get to feeling better fast.

Thanks for your replies. Sky, yeah I don't feel sick like a virus it's just this breathing thing. It's gotten better. My chest don't feel as heavy and I don't cough as much. I am going to see the doctor next week if it does'nt get better than it is now. I found that drinking water helps with the congestion. I don't know how but it does. I got a constant pressure headache from coughing though.

Drinking lots of water helps because it makes the mucous thinner and helps get the germ out of your body. Glad your cough is a little better TBear.
