While I am going to see my doctor concerning these issues I was wondering if any one here might have an ideal to what is going on.
I went to bed Sunday night around 1 am and slept until 4 pm Monday afternoon "fifteen hours in all" - I was dead to the world and did not realize I had slept that long. I got up and got a drink as I normally do and set on the couch to slowly wake up... I sat there for a hour, at 5 pm I got up and went to the bathroom and then it all hit... Tingling & Numbness across my entire head area and face followed by severe steady pain and pressure in my head that made me feel as though my head was going to explode. Tingling and numbness in both my arms (it slowly got hard to raise my arms). I felt sick to my stomach off on with slight discomfort that was followed by some diarrhea each time. The symptoms seemed to be better or lessen when I sat still, but would resurface (come on strong) when I stood up and walked around - I often felt as though I was going to faint and had pain along my teeth/gum line. It is now 2 am Monday morning and I finally up from bed, but still feeling all the symptoms mentioned above... any ideals? Thanks |

I would recommend you go to the doctors/ER. I will not diagnose anything but it sounds like it could be anything from a migraine to a stroke to a neurological issue to a bad reaction to some medicine but it sounds serious to me. DON'T panic, but please go to the doctor or ER sooner then later.

I agree with Ascension. This is something you need to get checked out by a doctor right away. Please let us know after you do, what they say it is.
Is it evenly distributed across both sides? Or more one side than the other. Look in the mirror and smile. See if you notice anything unusual. If you raise both arms, are they equal, or does one lag behind?Strokes usually affect one side of the body more than the other. Something may have happened or may be happening neurologically. Early treatment is the best chance for stopping whatever is going wrong and reversing any damage. The longer you wait, the more permanent damage will be likely. It could be nothing big, but just in case, get checked out.

I don't know, Rhap, you seem to have a lot of illnesses/disease that can be influenced by prolonged inactivity/staying still. Could be something with having slept so long? I'd go to ER as everyone suggests. Does not sound pleasant.
I sometimes wake in the middle of the night (like last night) and have the pins and needles and aches, etc. and think it is related to my thyroid and how I take my pills, etc. I think auto-immune diseases can do a number on you, any time. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Thanks for all the replies... I am doing better, but still feel sick to my stomach with headaches and neck pain that is causing blurred vision in my right eye - but over all better.
I did not go to the ER as this is not the first, fifth, or even the tenth time this has happened... and trust me the doctors have ran test over the last four or five years to try and diagnose what the medical problem might be and nothing has been found that would say it is this or that - hence why I asked here. I think it might be a neurological or heart issue and while test show some issues with my heart valve and server migraines that warrant watching, none of the test have ever shown anything that could be controlled with medicine or surgery... minus the migraines that were not helped with medicine. I personally think the medical field is missing some thing here - *SIGH* |

many times they can't see anything if it isn't happening. if there is a next time go to the er while it is happening.

To me it sounded like classic stroke symptoms to a T. I remember my mother, years ago laying on the couch thinking she had the stomach flu - nausea, and headache. Then her speech started slurring and that's when we took her to the ER. Ask for a brain scan - it might be you've had TIA's - Transient Ischemic Attacks or minnie strokes. I hope you feel better and don't give up searching for an explanation.

If you haven't seen a neurologist about this, maybe this would be a good time?
It sounds like no fun. It sounds pretty scary, actually ![]() |

Thanks for the suggestion... I use the Mayo Clinic website to look up all my health concerns, but never knew they had a facility so close to me - I will look into it.

Its been about two weeks since I first made this thread and I am feeling much better even though I am having severe headches off and on that are still effecting my vision and forcing be into bed for relief... the only other issue I can think of beside what has already been mentioned is that I did not have my period at the beginning of the month like I should have.
On NO - I do not think I am pregnant as I had my tubes tied burnt and cut twenty years ago (hence why my baby boy just turned 20)... but I do think I may be progressing along in my pre-menopause faster than it was thought I would.... I will make an apt to see my doctor next month if I miss a second period, other wise I will wait for my regular schedule apt that I have every four months. |

Have you seen an orthodontist or oral surgeon, someone who can evaluate you for possible TMD?

Well... Since I'm having some thyroid issues myself I'm thinking that maybe what is up with you could be thyroid or otherwise hormone related.
I guess you have had blood tests. Thinking in particular of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). That one is usually done as a matter of course... Did you also get free T4 (fT4)? That one is sometimes done as a matter of course but sometimes only if there is an abnormality found in TSH. The thing is that T4 can be abnormal even though TSH is normal. Similarly with free T3 (fT3) which is a test that is typically not done. If either T3 or T4 or both are abnormal then one can be either hyperthyroid or hypothyroid even though TSH is within normal range. Otherwise... The mind really can be a very powerful thing... Even with hyperthyroidism (including Graves disease) they have found that it is often triggered by 'extreme stress' for instance. It is possible that your symptoms are psychologically caused and that a physical anomaly can't be found... Are there any psychological precursors / triggers that you can think of such as increased stress or something like that? It isn't at all fun to feel so unwell. You are in my thoughts. |

I had all the Thyroid test done a few months back and they all came out ok, no problem..... and no there are no psychological issues I can think of when these incidents happen as they can come on any time.... sitting down, resting, sleeping, grocery shopping, making dinner, talking on the phone, enjoy a peaceful moment out in nature. etc
I just feel like a lost cause and I often wonder if these problems might just be a combination of my all the issues I have, therefore, I just have to learn to live with them as a group and individually. ![]() |

I don't know how long ago the "been there done that" occurred, but new symptoms or recurrence requires a new reevaluation.
One instance of a symptom may mean one thing, several may mean something else, and recurring symptoms quite another. It sounds like you are comfortable handling this on your own. |

Not to sure if I am comfortable with handling it on my own.... I just do what I must to get by and seeing my regular doctors every four to six months doesn't hurt either - they are my life line in moments like this.
BTW - I started my period this morning... two weeks late but never the less its here. |

Yes, I was talking about TMJD (temporo mandibular joint dysfunction) ... or TMD.
Well, I understand you when you say it feels different. ![]() I don't need to remind you how crazy having the jaw off can make you feel, the weird migraines, the lethargy, etc. ![]() Have you changed your diet lately? Or even laundry detergent? I know allergies can cause strange stuff too. ![]() Just so tough to figure things out, isn't it? ![]() Good wishes on this!

It is about two months since I first made this thread and shared the new symptoms I have been experiencing and I just had a second episode the other night - getting a little scared here... just saw one of my doctors a few days before the episode and he seemed to feel that all was well in this old body... Now What?
