Hi everyone.

I really have an uncomfortable subject to ask/talk about, at least for me.

I am suffering from diarrhea constantly. I eat hardly anything I am in the bathroom within 10-15 min of eating the first bit. Sometimes I don't eat anything and am in the bathroom.

This morning I woke up and immediatly had to go and now have a fever, so I think am sick, which I understand that that happens. But I can hardly go out to eat with friends or family anymore because I have to excuse myself or really try and hold it till I get home. I hate using public restrooms but when you have to go really bad you have to go right?

Yesterday I went to town with my mom and aunt and we walked around for a while. The whole time I had to go so bad, but there was nothing I could do about it. I am also suffering from severe back pain at the moment, but the diarrhea has been around for years. Never this bad though.

We went to a resteraunt for my b-day and I couldn't even finish my meal because i had to rush to the bathroom. This is really affecting my life and am always in the bathroom. I swear i spend more time in there than I do anywhere else right now....

About 5 years ago I did have my gall bladder out and things kinda started then but never like this. Also I have had a colonoscopy and have been hospitalized with dehydration because of the sever diarrhea, but other than that I don't know really what to do now. I mean they took the stool tests and all the gross stuff a while back.

I can't take anything over the counter either. I have tried the pepto and got sick because I am on a MAOI for one of the anti-depressents and am not allowed to take hardly anything over the counter.

I am sorry this is going on and on, I am just wondering if there are others out there that have experienced the same thing and have any ideas as to what to do.

Anyways, if anyone has any ideas or have been through or are going though the same thing I would really appreciate some feedback. This has been going on for too long, and I can't stand it anymore. I don't even like to leave the house because of this problem and going out to eat with a friend is pretty much out of the question.

Thanks for listening...take care everyone
Jen

How long was it since your colonoscopy was done? How long since the stool tests were done?

There is no way to say what the cause is because there are many different causes. Have you ever been told that you have irritable bowel syndrome? Are you or have you ever been an alcoholic? What is your diet like? Has your diet changed recently? Have you lost weight? Did they ever check you for clostridium difficile?

The only thing that I could really advise you try is eat yogurt with probiotics. Activia claims to be high in bacterial cultures and they fix your bowels within two weeks or your money back. I'm pretty sure it is Activia that says that but I might be wrong. You also can get bacterial cultures in a capsule. I had diarrhea for several months after being on three different antibiotics upset the balance in my intestines and my doctor suggested the capsule but I can't recall the name at the moment. A pharmacist should be able to recommend one for you.

If the bacterial cultures don't help I would suggest discussing the problem with your physician. It could be something simple or it could be complex. Hope you feel better.

Yoda,
It's been a little over a year since the colonoscopy and i can't even remember why i had it. Probably the same thing was still going on, but it's getting worse. My memory is not so good right now with the lack of sleep i have, but that's a total different subject. So all the tests were done a year ago. Everything came back normal.

I am not allowed to eat yogurt because am on a MAOI. It can cause a severe reaction so I was told or something and end up in a coma or worse. There are so many restrictions on the MAOI and I have been following them. My diet hasn't really changed, not really lost any or gained any weight. Actually if my diet has changed it's that I can't really eat as much because am afraid that am in the bathroom right after the first couple bites.

after I got my gall bladder out i mentioned it to one of the people who assisted in on the surgery that food just seems to go right through me and she said that isn't possible. So ever since then just kinda put it on the back burner that it's not anything...but now i can't even hardly leave the house.

I don't even know what to do about this because i was at the docs a year ago with the same problem and saw my usual doc. So, but this is just my problem i don't like to go to the doctor at all about anything. I feel like am complaining.

Thanks for your respnse.
Jen

I also take a MAOI and I have not had any problems with yogurt. I eat sour cream, cheddar cheese and others that can interact but when I started I ate very small amounts and I was cautious to look for an interaction. The foods and MAOIs can result in hypertensive crisis so it would be in your best interest to monitor your blood pressure while you are taking the drug so you will know if you are having a crisis.

While I have been able to eat foods that may interact with no problem I do not know that you would or would not so cannot advise. It depends on which particular drug, the dosage, the type and amount of food and your personal biochemistry.

Ask your pharmacist/physician if they think the capsules are okay with your current meds.

If I can, what MAOI r u on? I am on Nardil. I was put on it i n late january I believe.

I do have some problems with some of the things was told to not eat or be careful with. I have not tried the yogurt and I have always loved yogurt. I am somewhat lactose intolarant but that's been like that 4 years and if I eat something I know what to expect. At first I did think it was just that becoming worse but thought about it and I really don't have a lot of dairy except 4 milk and that is ok on most days.

I am just getting kinda nervous because when this was last time I was hospitalized and had to have iv fluids. That's another reason I don't want to go in to the doc.
I don't know am I just overreacting? But going to the bathroom that much and sometimes nothing happening but feels like it, its getting painful and disruptive.

I have always, well since my gall bladder was taken out have problems with fast food and I avoid that as much as possible.
I don't know kinda feel like am just overreacting and that I will just have to live like this forever.

I know in the back of my mind I should probably go to the doctor. I have to do what's right for my heath. Just worried.

This could be many things ranging from Irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, celiac disease or even a more serious bowel disease including cancer. Please go back to your Doctor.
