I looked back 5 pages and didn't find anything quite the same to just bump up, so I'm just starting a new thread. Sue me.

I've had a very bad day today, as I have on the first day of my period since the middle of school year this year. It isn't simply take a few asprin and go on with my day, I'm completely stopped. Usually now it's just me writhing and groaning in pain all day, and then coming a little too close to ODing on asprin.

Today it was bad. I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. I can't go to the doctor cos I'm so phobic of them, and you don't really talk about this to people in person. I couldn't do anything, I was colapsed on the bed crying about to puke, it was worse than normal and it's totally screwed over my entire day and mood.

I woke up at 10, played video games. realized if I didn't take some pain killers before the pain started I'd be screwed so I took two at 12. and at 1 the pain started. I take asprin before the pain starts, and a lot during. I fell asleep finally at 3, and woke up too soon at 5. By then I'd taken over 7 asprin in under 8 hours. Which I have this lingering feeling isn't especially good. I still feel like poo.

It's kind of at the point right now that if I don't find something to get it under control I'm just going to go back to not eating and just skip my damn periods. I'm serious, so will someone suggest some better non-prescription pain killers, some home remedies, whatever. It's summer so I can't take a warm bath or use a heating pad, not that it did crap anyway.

PWEASE?! Woman ONLY. I feel bad about not being at the boards much and yet I come back to start a thread, but I'm really at wit's end. And yes believe it or not I'm very tolerant of pain.

Mort, I'd try ibuprofen. It lasts longer than aspirin and you can take up to 2400 mg a day (that's 12 tablets).

I've tried Aleve for headaches because it lasts 12 hours, but then you're SOL if it doesn't work. You can't take anything else while it's in your system. No aspirin, Tylenol, or ibuprofen.

I can't think as I didn't have this problem... Midol? There are some herbal rememdies I think ... best check online Blue Cohosh? Oh, I did give out ice packs to run/walkers on a fundraiser, to the gals who were having serious abdominal cramping and pain.. ??? Sorry. Feel better. Woman ONLY.

Blue cohosh is recommended if you're under 40, black cohosh if you're over 40. Dong Quai (also known as women's ginseng) is supposed to be good for all around PMS symptoms, cramping included.

I can't attest to any of this because, like Sky, I don't have painful periods, or at least nothing that a couple of ibuprofen won't take care. Woman ONLY.

Hey Mortimer,

So sorry you are having a rough time of it. Don't know if this is your case, but for me... no over the counter meds helped me at all, I finally was diagnosed with endometriosis.

I was in so much pain the first two days of each period-- often had to miss school and then work as I got older. You really won't know unless you go see a doctor though. I was put on birthcontrol pills and was told that was what it felt like for most women--- I couldn't believe what a breeze each month was after being on the pill!!

I say get to the doctor and get some relief....life is too short to spend so many days of it in horrible pain-- when there possibly could be a remedy out there for you!!

good luck!!!

Ah, thank you guys. It's just the first day that this happens, things aren't as bad now, and after I go to sleep tonight I'll be fine and then it's normal cramps, not bad ones.

Next time I see a doctor, probably roughly four years, I'll ask. I'll go look for better pain killers and the herbal things you guys mentioned. Thanks again. (^_^) You guys are sweet. :3

The Pill is a good thing to take when you have miserable periods.

I used to have the worst periods imaginable. Seriously, on my graduation day in high school I was in my bed, curled into a ball in tears because I couldn't move because the pain was so bad and my period was so heavy. Then I went on The Pill and it was ammmmmaaaazzziiinnnggg. My periods are still a little heavy, and I get SOME cramps, but not nearly the same severity.

If you really want the pain to stop, go on The Pill.

Just to play Devil's Advocate...a few weeks ago, I was put on "The Pill" to regulate my periods. Let me tell you it has not been a good experience. Not only did the problems I was having INCREASE the medicine made me sick as well. It just doesn't seem to be the answer for me.

I would encourage you to see a doctor. I was terrified too, but my husband went with me and my mom is going with me to my appointment this week. Telling them you are scared also helps. They will make the extra effort to make the experience better for you (in most cases).

Don't put it off. Heaven forbid it is something serious, catching it sooner usually makes it easier to treat. Good luck Mortimer...keep me posted.

i can take narcotic pain relievers and they don't help with cramps (that have sent me to hosp before). the only thing that works for me is ibuprophen. i take 600 mgs or 800 mgs. however, you have to be careful. you can only take 800 mgs in an 8 hour period. i've never needed it more often than that.

Please dont take aspirin ! That thins your blood, and will actually INCREASE your problem ! I agree - time to put aside the Doctor phobia so that you can get some relief ! Perhaps your Mom or best friend could go with you. See if you can find a female gynecologist too - they KNOW what a period is like - WHAT male gynecologist has a CLUE? Tylenol would be much safer, and like someone above said, you can take more than Aspirin. A heating pad on your tummy might relieve the cramps, but will possibly increase your flow. Its hard for me to remember back to the days I had periods, but I know I suffered for years, and my problem was endometriosis. A hysterectomy many years ago was a total blessing ! So sorry you go thru this each month !!!

I think somehow you really need to see a dr. There could be more serious issues going on in your reproductive system and you should not wait. get a friend to go with you. please see a dr

I hate to say it but I am in agreement with bebop. It could be way more serious since it happens every month. If it was everyother month, you could blame it on the overies from one side, but when it happen every month???????

My Mother ignored herself & ended up with cancer that killed her....not a plesant esperience to go through or put your family through.

I am one of the unlucky people that can't take the pill due to blood clotting...but then, my period stopped 4 months ago when my weight loss was so extreme. I have the other worry as to what is going on that has stopped it.

The Dr may be a phobia, but you need to weigh out your options....the amount of Dr s you will have to see if it is something serious that isn't taken care of is more that the ONE you need to see for a diagnosis to catch something before it is serious.
