I have lost 10 lbs this year....no yea's...I am 10 lbs under my minimum weight. When I was at my lowest weight (I have gained a few lbs back), my periods stopped completely....haven't had it for 4 months....& no, there is NO WAY of being pregnant. It seems natural that at 52, I would be in menopause but for it to hit so suddenly, makes me wonder what might be going on other than that. In passing, I mentioned it to my Pdoc & he seemes to indicate that my body would take care of itself....not to be worried???

It's something I haven't mentioned to anyone except him....I don't want to get stuck back into the hospital for any more tests....I went through 2 months of that at the beginning of the year...no way can I go there again. I don't have another GP appointment scheduled until Sept. Part of me thinks like my Pdoc in that my body will take care of itself....another part is curious as to what is going on.

Reading about hot flashes...it seemed to indicate that one sweats from the waste up & your body temp. goes down after the hot flash. I sweat all over & run a temp of over 100. There are too many other things for me to deal with in my life right now.....

This is just a nagging question that is in the background of everything else,

Debbie

Your low weight may be to blame for not having your periods. I haven't had mine in a few years because of extremely low weight.

I would definatly talk to your doctor about the high temperature. You may have an infection or something causing it.

I know you don't want any tests, but you should at least rule out anything serious.

You can buy a test at the local pharmacy, actually has 2 tests in it, for like and it checks your FSH... will tell you pretty much if its menopause or not.. but if you haven't gone through ANY symptoms wow that would be a lark! I'm fin too, just turned 53... (bt symptoms more or less, began)since the injury 18 years ago....

Talked to my GP last week when I went in for recheck after being hospitalized for dehydration. I asked him if it was usual for periods to just stop that suddenly with menopause. He said it is.....he will do a blood test for it the next time I go in when he does his normal blood tests to check my nutrition & dehydration level. He figured that because I just was discharged from the hospital near my home that my blood test was just fine.

Ended up back in the ER the next day & was even more dehydrated than the week before....only they couldn't get an IV in to start with & the one they got in wouldn't work without my holding the dang thing down for several hours to get even 1/2 liter in.

At this point, I am trying so hard to keep enough fluids down but am so unsucessful which is easy to determine by the weight loss.....it can't be anything except fluids that I am losing that fast. I am drinking over 80 oz's while out & then keep drinking when I get home. I just don't know how I can lose so much more than I am putting in....doesn't make sense. I just can't seem to figure out how to fix this problem on my own..I can't get enough fluids down without getting sick either. It is bad when I keep passing out, knowing it is probably from dehydration...there is no point in going to the ER since they can't get in the IV's. I have called my GP about it & just never get called back...guess he thinks that I will just be able to get enough fluids in sooner or later. I can't give up my training for my riding & the only time available is in the mornings which runs into the afternoon by the time I finish up with the horses. The rest of the week, I go out around 6pm when it is cooler & have to feed the horses anyway. I still sweat off the fluids at that time too....it just doesn't cool off here. I'm really not sure how to handle the dehydration problem & hate passing out....I am usually able to catch when it is happening by everything closing in & going dark.....have been able to lay down before completely colapsing so haven't been hurt yet. Have been lucky to not pass out completely around the horses for some time now...I can usually sit down & put my head between my knees....but for some reason that scares the horses too. It is very scarry when I came to a couple of times & foundnd sore places where the horses have stepped.

Now that I know the periods quiting suddenly is a normal process of menopause, I'm not worried any more & will look for the test at the pharmacy tomorrow when I go to pick up my pain med for my migraines I think it is good to check it out for myself & see how it compares to the one my GP will do the next time I go in.

Thanks for your concern,
Debbie

Wow - sounds like you have a hosts of issues - but one thing I want to say is about the amount of fluid you are drinking. I live near DC, and a bicycle cop died this past week after a 21 mile training exercise. It turns out he had had TOO much water ! It caused an imbalance in the sodium levels in his system, and stopped his heart. They also reported the same can happen with Gatorade. It was reported he drank 3 gallons of water during the training exercise. I know that when out in the heat we have to take in fluids, but I am wondering if there is a chance you are drinking too much ? Having been dehydrated a few times myself - making starting an IV very difficult, it CAN be done no matter how bad the veins are - but then again - if your sodium, electrolytes are outta whack from too much fluid - (and I dont think this is something many people KNEW until now) - more IV's could actually make u sicker ! Seems like a Catch 22 situation! Have you tried salt tabs while u are out and having to drink so much ? Perhaps you could ask your Doc about that.

As for periods - lots of reasons for them to stop - but if your GP says it can be part of menopause - he/she is smarter than I am for sure - but I dont think many people have them just stop........I think it has something to do with your weight, and the fluids issue, but of course - Just MHO !

Hope you soon feel better !

I need to drink a lot of water also... in addition to the salt... it also takes out the Vitamin K (potassium) from your system... other nutrients. But low potassium causes me to faint. My testing (at that time) showed me in the normal range, but I happened to be camping with others, one being an MD and HE insisted... so I took K and it fixed that problem. It is always an issue.. heat, water, salt.. K for me.
