My eye is hemorrhaging again
Happened out of the blue at work.
I got an emergency appt with the retina specialist. I see him tomorrow at noon.

He's a wonderful doc, but I sure wish I didn't need to seem him.

Oh, my! that doesn't sound like any fun at all!
Do they have any idea what causes it to hemorrhage?
(I must be dumb, because I have actually never heard of that happening)
I'm glad you have a good doctor though.
Will be thinking about you tomorrow.
Let us know how it goes, ok?

I'm with Miracle! I've never heard of it happening! Has this happened a lot before, or is this something fairly new??

I hope and pray that this can be taken care of as soon as possible for you!!!!!

Here is a link:
http://www.suncoastretina.com/eyecon...Hemorrhage.htm.

This happened a few months ago and for 6 weeks after, I had an incrased chance of detached retina. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

I have been seeing flashes in my perpheral, but that was not an issue unless it got worse. Today I was in a meeting with a co-worker when suddenly my vision filled with waves and a dark snake-like floater. It's a little different than the last time when it seemed like rivers or ribbons in my eye/vision. That was a hemmorhage; I was seeing the blood shooting into the vitreous fluid in the eye.

Thank you for your nice thoughts. I'll be glad to see the doc tomorrrow.

My friend recently had emergency detached retina surgery and though she is fine now, the recuperation was a drag since she had to lie on her side for 5 days straight and couldn't do anything, no books, no computer, no nothing! So it's great you don't have a detached retina. But I'm really sorry that you have the hemorraghing going on!!

Good luck tomorrow (((((((Echoes))))))

((Echoes)) - so sorry to hear this is happening and thank God you have an appoint. so soon. Do they know what causes this to happen? I pray this is something that won't cause long term damage.

lynn,
It is more common in people who are nearsighted, have undergone cataract surgery, have had YAG laser surgery of the eye, have had inflammation inside the eye. Aslo age is a factor; the vitreous gel thickens or shrinks and forms clumps or strands (floaters).
The vitreous gel pulls away from the back wall of the eye (vitreous detachment). The retina can tear if the shrinking vitreous gel pulls away from the wall of the eye and can cause bleeding; a torn retina can lead to detachment.

My father had glaucoma and they aren't sure if I have glaucoma. They are treating me watchfully, but can't rule it out or in.

Worse, my mother had macular degeneration and I reallly fear that. I grew up hard of hearing and my first eye hemorrhage started two days after receiving a beautiful gift of 2 hearing aids that have changed my world. I have always feared losing my vision, so this just is very frightening for me.

But I remind myself it could just be an aging thing and not serious.
Thanks for this!

(((Echoes))) - I'm sorry you're so frightened and justifiably so...I pray it's not serious or long term. Several months ago I had what you mentioned here:

Quote:
The vitreous gel pulls away from the back wall of the eye (vitreous detachment).
You responded to my thread when it was happening to me and I even got a 2nd opinion and luckily it's the aging thing. I remember a black squiggly floater at the top of my vision - that's gone now, but I still get the flashes when I look to the right. I wish our eyes didn't age - I miss my perfect vision.

I'll watch for your response tomorrow and will keep you in my prayers Echoes.

It was a retinal tear this time. The retina MD was happy I got in there right away and he did laser surgery to repair it.

I asked if this was going to be an ongoing problem, or a progressive problem. He said the tear it more than likely the last step of the vitreous fluid pulling away from the back of the eye, a common occurrance with aging. This should be the end of it. yay!

He's a great doc, super nice and reassuring. Wonderful
Tall and handsome and smells good too

Can't read for a week. Look like I've been in a battle. Lot's of curious looks at the grocery on the way home. Driving and shopping with one eye.... OY!
Thanks for this!

I've always been good at sensing things...did you see how we posted at the exact same time lol. I was wondering to myself that you must be done with the appointment by now and I better check on your thread.

So sorry to hear it was a retinal tear but happy it was fixed promptly though. Does this mean you shouldn't be read on the computer too?? My daughters teacher had a retinal tear last year and had to have a 2nd surgery on the same eye...1st one didn't fix it completely. I was surprised to learn from her and my doctor, that when it happens we don't feel any pain - no nerve endings back there, but it's certainly annoying. Do you have to wear a patch? I hope you have a speedy recovery ((Echoes))
